Tim Knox, Director of The Royal Collection, takes over as Bedfor Park Society’s patron

    The Bedford Park Society has announced its new Patron, Tim Knox, CVO FSA, currently Director of The Royal Collection.

    He was appointed to this role by Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2018 and is responsible for running the department of the Royal Household that looks after the art collections of the British Royal family.

    Helen Jameson, Chair, The Bedford Park Society, said:

    “We are delighted that Tim has agreed to become the Society’s Patron. He has a wealth of relevant experience and has been involved for many years in conservation, holding prestigious roles as an architectural historian and museum director.”

    Knox’s previous roles include Architectural Historian at the National Trust, Director of the Sir John Soane’s Museum and Director of the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge.

    During his time in these roles he was involved in key restoration work, such as the overseeing of the restoration project of Sir John Soane’s Museum. He is a Trustee of Historic Royal Palaces and Patron of the Mausolea & Monuments Trust.

    He was appointed a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) in the 2025 Birthday Honours.

    In accepting his new role as the Society’s Patron, Tim Knox said:

    “I am very pleased and proud to assist in some small way with the preservation of Bedford Park and in making its architecture and social significance better known.”

    Knox is taking up the role after Sir Donald Insall CBE retired after 24 years of service as Patron to the Society.

    Sir Donald is one of the leading conservation architects of his generation and his practice has won over 200 awards for their work including major projects at Windsor Castle, the Palace of Westminster, the Tower of London and Kew Gardens.

    Thanking him for his contribution, Helen said:

    “Sir Donald has given freely and generously of his time and expertise throughout his patronage of the Society, giving advice on strategic planning and listed building issues. His wise counsel has been invaluable in furthering the work of the Society. We thank him for everything he has done.”
