Meghan Markle’s unexpected Paris trip “changes everything” for the royal family amid their ongoing rift, according to a source.
The Duchess of Sussex was attending Paris Fashion Week in support of her friend Pierpaolo Piccioli, who held his first runway show as creative director at Balenciaga. Wearing a flowing white cape with an elegant button down underneath, Meghan was seen chatting to Anna Wintour, quashing any rumors that the pair are feuding.
Upon hugging, the Duchess was captured on video inquiring about Anna’s wellbeing, with the fashion mogul replying it was, “Nice to see you,” before adding, “Beautiful, Cherie. You look amazing.”
Fans, papparzzi and members of the fashion world alike were shocked to see Meghan at the recent Balenciaga show, but none were more surprised than the British royal family.
A palace insider spoke to the Daily Beast about the appearance, telling the outlet, “If they really plan to spend more time here, it changes everything. It puts them back in the frame, and that’s not what anyone expected.”
Meghan’s spokesperson spoke to PEOPLE after what appeared to be her European soft launch, saying, “Over the years, the Duchess has worn a number of designs by Pierpaolo [Piccioli, who was just named creative director for Balenciaga].
“They have worked closely together, collaborating on design for key moments on the world stage,” before noting she was there in a friendship capacity.
