In a video shared on Instagram and X, the future British monarch—who shares three children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, with his wife, Kate Middleton—spoke to a widow and bereaved mother for suicide awareness.
“In 2012, Rhian’s one-year-old son died suddenly. Five days later, her husband Paul tragically took his own life,” the shared accounts for Prince William and Middleton captioned their updates. “Talking about suicide is essential to prevent it. Thank you to Rhian and her family for sharing their story.”
For the clip, Prince William asked Rhian, “If you could say something or wanted to say something to Paul, what would you have said?”
She answered, “Why didn’t you speak to me? I ask myself that every single day because he’s missed out on just so much joy.”
Rhian continued, “I’ve never been touched by suicide. It was something that happened in the news, and it happened to us. I will forever go over those last few days with him, wondering what we missed. We were just so happy. And I just think this shows that it really can happen to anyone.”
As Prince William looked away while stroking his mouth, Rhian asked, “Are you OK?” The future king cleared his throat and took a deep breath to compose himself.
“The best way to prevent suicide is to talk about it,” he concluded in the social media video. “Talk about it early, talk about it with your loved ones, those you trust, your friends. So thank you for talking about it.”

Someone else echoed, “Such a difficult topic to discuss, but what a compassionate and genuine human being the Prince of Wales is. Nothing but respect for how he and Catherine are using their platform in a myriad of ways.’
A different Instagram user shared, “Will has the empathy of his mother. The monarchy is going to change for good when he ascends the throne. He and Catherine will be a wonderful King & Queen.”
Meanwhile, yet another royal fan commented, “I say this with the most sincerity and I hope it comes across that way. It is so incredibly mind boggling to me all the quiet, yet powerful work that William does. So extraordinary. You should be so proud of yourself.”
