Now that Netflix has dropped Victoria Beckham’s eponymous documentary, the showbiz world and Posh fans everywhere are buzzing with excitement for what is set to be one of the biggest shows of 2025.

Already the trailer, which shows Victoria’s evolution from Spice Girl to fashion mogul and all of the grit it’s taken the mum-of-four to achieve her dream, is giving her husband David’s own 2023 documentary, Beckham, a run for its money.

However, when it comes to Netflix’s uber-competitive leaderboard, climbing the ranks means that there are plenty of others vying for your top spot.

And now a source tells Closer that one famous name in particular has been ‘triggered’ by the well-publicised countdown to the show’s ‘drop day’ – Meghan Markle, who they say has been left humiliated by the amount of attention Victoria is receiving from Netflix.

The insider explains, ‘Meghan guards the deal and the relationship she has with Netflix and its CEO Ted Sarandos extremely closely, which is pretty ridiculous given how dreadful her ratings have been with the cooking show [With Love, Meghan].

‘It’s extremely triggering for her to see Posh of all people waltzing in and scoring big with this documentary, so naturally she’s following the saga closely and hoping it doesn’t lead to her and Harry being totally outshone in their own work back yard so to speak.’

Meghan, 43, and Victoria, 51, previously had a history of friendship after first being introduced to each other by their mutual husbands, David and Prince Harry.

Unlike many of Meghan’s own pals and former Suits co-stars, Victoria and David even managed to bag an invite to the couple’s wedding back in 2018, with reports suggesting that Victoria had gone out of her way to support and befriend Meghan.

In turn, Meghan supported Victoria’s own fashion line, opting to wear her designs to some of her most public engagements within the Royal Family, including her 2017 engagement announcement with Harry, 41.

But it wasn’t to last. In 2018, just months after the wedding, David, 50, is said to have been left ‘furious’ after receiving a call from Harry, who accused Victoria of leaking stories about Meghan to the media – which she has denied doing.

There were suggestions that Meghan had wanted to extend an olive branch to her former friend last year when she wore a VB design during her ‘tour’ to Columbia. But the source says that for Victoria, Meghan’s goodwill gestures were too little, too late, as they now reveal that she won’t be backing down in any way when it comes to going for gold with Netflix.

The insider says, ‘Victoria has heard all the noise about how territorial Meghan is – gossip travels fast. She’s annoyed that there’s negativity being directed towards her right ahead of the big premiere, but she’s sucking it up and saying it’s just water off a duck’s back at this point.

‘Truth is, she and David are very content with the decision they made some years ago to cut the Sussexes out of their lives, and the fact she’s whining right before this documentary gets released just goes to prove that she’s drama with a capital D.

‘Nothing’s going to get in the way of Vic’s special debut, least of all Meghan’s griping.’

This isn’t the first time the Beckhams and the Sussexes have gone head-to-head over ratings, with David’s documentary being released just months after the Sussexes docu-series, Harry & Meghan.

At the time in 2022, Harry and Meghan had celebrated becoming Netflix’s biggest ever debut, but the couple found themselves eclipsed in ratings by David and Victoria when, months later, Beckham hit the number 1 spot with a staggering 208.5 million hours of viewing time in the first two months – 3.5 times the viewing figures of Meghan & Harry.

However, their rift goes much deeper than a race for ratings, with both the Beckhams and the Sussexes said to have been ‘stung’ by the part each have played in their respective family ‘betrayals’.

Despite the royal rift, David and Victoria are believed to have remained loyal to the monarchy, in particular Kate Middleton and Prince William, with David receiving a knighthood from King Charles as part of his birthday honours list this year.

Meanwhile, we previously reported how Victoria had been left upset over Meghan and Harry’s blossoming friendship with their estranged eldest son, Brooklyn, and his wife Nicola Peltz-Beckham, who the Sussexes are believed to have invited over for a private dinner at their Montecito home earlier this year.

Now the source adds, ‘For Meghan, there’s more to it than just a Netflix rivalry. She and Harry are both still stinging, big time, that Victoria and David ghosted them all those years ago and chose to take Kate and William’s side so publicly.

‘Meghan has tried countless times to reach out and mend fences, but Victoria’s either ignored her entirely or gotten back in touch with a curt response. It’s clearly still a big bone of contention for both Victoria and David that they were essentially accused by Team Sussex of leaking stories about Meghan and Harry.

‘Those old wounds cut extremely deep on both sides, and this has really brought all that tension back to the surface.’

To make matters worse, while Meghan – who managed to secure a ‘First Look’ deal with Netflix over the summer – is now under pressure to produce ‘good’ content amidst dwindling figures for her cooking show, the source says Victoria has been the talk of town at the headquarters of the streaming giant.

More so, after signing on the dotted line for her debut – as Harry and Meghan did when they signed their reported $20 million mega-deal back in 2020 – Victoria is believed to already be in talks for further projects going forward, making her and Meghan very close bedfellows for the foreseeable future.

The source says, ‘Victoria’s documentary project has all of Netflix buzzing and they are tipping her for bigger things. The documentary came out way better than anybody expected it would and Victoria was a joy to work with.

‘Throughout her journey to being a self-made superstar, Victoria put her stamp on the world and, unlike Meghan, seems to be very relatable.

‘It’s a triumphant moment for the Beckham family, for Netflix, but definitely not for Meghan, who still seems like she’s in search of her authentic self. Victoria doesn’t have that problem and never will!’
