Prince William’s seven-word retort to Meghan Markle’s Royal Family allegations revealed “molten anger” directed at his sister-in-law’s claims, an expert has said.

William responded five years ago following Meghan’s assertion that senior members of The Firm raised concerns about “how dark” Prince Archie’s complexion might be.

The claim emerged during her conversation with American chat-show presenter Oprah Winfrey, shortly after she and Prince Harry quit the UK.

The Sussexes relocated to Montecito in California in 2020, declaring they were “stepping back” from their positions as senior royals.

After Harry and Meghan’s interview, the claims were described by Buckingham Palace as “concerning”, although officials said the issue would be raised in private, reports the Express.

Yet during a public outing, William mounted a defence of the royals. When a journalist questioned whether The Firm was racist, the Prince of Wales responded: “We’re very much not a racist family.”

During that appearance, William acknowledged he had not yet discussed the matter with his younger sibling but planned to do so.

Daily Mirror Associate Editor Kevin Maguire has now claimed William’s reaction exposed his genuine sentiments towards his in-laws at that moment.

Speaking on Channel 5’s Royal Heirs and Spares: Rivalry & Resentment, he said: “That moment when William said the Royal Family isn’t racist, that revealed molten anger.”

He continued: “He also appreciated the harm and the damage that the accusation had made for that family. That was absolutely extraordinary, those few words, that little response, told us a huge amount.”

The bond between William and Harry is believed to have deteriorated significantly in recent years.

In his bombshell memoir Spare, Harry even claimed his brother launched a physical assault on him during a heated argument in 2019.

Harry penned: “He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor. I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then got to my feet and told him to get out.”

William appeared to take a swipe at his younger brother during a recent trip to the Army Air Corps in Wattisham, Suffolk.

The Prince was addressing troops and their loved ones at Harry’s former regiment.

Sporting camouflage fatigues and the blue AAC beret, the prince enquired whether one soldier managed to spend sufficient time with his family.

He then quipped: “Some of them might not want to see you that much. It’s a mixed bag sometimes.”

William’s comment, delivered in June, arrived just weeks after Harry expressed his desire for “love reconciliation” with his relatives.

“Life is precious,” the Duke of Sussex had declared.

“I don’t know how much longer my father has. He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff. But it would be nice to reconcile.”

Royal Heirs and Spares: Rivalry & Resentment is set to broadcast on Saturday, October 18 at 8.35pm on Channel 5.
