Meghan Markle has sparked fresh debate following a subtle clue spotted in her most recent Instagram upload that appears to reference her Royal status.
The Duchess shared a montage of her visit to Washington DC on her revamped social media account, where she participated as a guest speaker at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit. The footage captures Meghan being chauffeured past the capital’s iconic landmarks before reaching the event venue for her speaking engagement and subsequently boarding a flight home to California.
In the opening moments of the video, as Meghan makes her entrance at the summit, luggage can be observed being wheeled through a hotel corridor, topped with a bag displaying the letters ‘DS’ – believed to stand for her Royal designation Duchess of Sussex.
Meghan found herself at the centre of a storm earlier this year regarding the use of her HRH title, which seemingly contradicts an arrangement made with the late Queen, reports the Mirror.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex relinquished their HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) titles upon stepping back from senior Royal duties in March 2020. Yet during a podcast conversation, an image emerged of a gift card Meghan had sent to an acquaintance which stated: “with the compliments of HRH The Duchess of Sussex”.
The luggage seemingly bearing Meghan’s initials surfaces after she delivered what many interpreted as another veiled dig during her summit appearance, whilst being questioned about her commercial ventures. Since their dramatic departure from Royal duties, the Sussexes have inked profitable contracts with big names like Netflix, and Meghan has launched her own brand, As Ever, hosted a podcast, and even had her own lifestyle programme.
However, at the conference, the Duchess reflected on the period five years ago, coinciding with their move to the US, as “it was a very different situation”. In what could be interpreted as a subtle dig at her previous life, she mentioned that her only plans were to “nest and heal”.

Speaking to Fortune’s editor-in-chief Alyson Shontell, she said: “You know, Archie was so little, and I had just got pregnant with Lili around that same time, so we were nesting – nesting and healing.
“And also, I don’t know, I had the bandwidth at that time to think about what the big picture dream was. There was no plan.
“It was just, let’s get through these next couple of years, create community, which was always so important to both of us in our new environment.
“I was probably in Birkenstocks and sweats like the rest of us, especially during Covid, or just barefoot at home, but I was making a lot of jam, so it ended up becoming the thing that really was my passion project.”

Meghan’s participation in the summit yesterday came amidst a busy schedule for the Duchess. She made a solo trip to Paris for the Balenciaga show on 4 October, before a series of appearances last week alongside the Duke of Sussex in New York.
Meghan also confessed that she made a quick trip back to California from Europe for just one day before jetting off to New York, as she needed to see her “babies”.
She revealed that she undertook a 6,000-mile journey home for a fleeting reunion with Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, rather than heading directly to the Big Apple.
