Indeed, it was this shared passion that brought this potential royal secret weapon to the attention of the general public. In the surprisingly candid 2021 documentary Prince Philip: The Royal Family Remembers, Lady Louise paid a moving tribute to her beloved ‘Grandpa’.

As the first royal to officially hold the surname Mountbatten-Windsor – thereby carrying on Prince Philip’s family name – Lady Louise was reportedly a favourite of the Prince’s. In the documentary, she recalled the close bond the two of them shared, forged over many years of a mutual love of carriage driving.

‘After a competition, he would always ask how it went. His eyes would light up because he just gets so excited when he talks about it,’ she remembered. The Queen and Philip were said to be full of pride when their youngest granddaughter led the carriages of the Champagne Laurent-Perrier Meet of the British Driving Society at the Royal Windsor Horse Show in 2017.

Should this royal rising star choose not to become a working royal, it might be that the Firm’s loss is the Armed Forces’ gain. A source told The Sun that ‘she talks about being very keen on a career in the military, serving King and country. She is all about the Army Cadets and has fallen in love with it.’ If Lady Louise does join the military, she would be the first female royal to do so since Queen Elizabeth II, then a Princess, served during the war effort.

Besides, it seems that royal service might not be on the cards for Lady Louise Windsor. After all, she was entitled to go by ‘Princess Louise’ after turning 18, with the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh leaving the decision up to their children when it comes to stylings. She chose not to, suggesting that Louise is attempting to distance herself from the life of a working royal.
