Country music fans are sending continued prayers to Mark Chesnutt, 62, after the beloved ’90s hitmaker was hospitalized Thursday night, October 16, just hours before he was set to open for Alabama at the Raising Cane’s River Center in Baton Rouge.

Now, his management has shared an update on the “Brother Jukebox” singer’s condition.

In a Friday interview with The Eastern New Mexico News, Tony Conway, president of Chesnutt’s management company, confirmed that the country star “remains hospitalized” as doctors run additional tests.

According to Conway, the veteran performer is being treated for “low sodium count and extreme high blood pressure.”

A rep for the singer also told Fox News on Saturday, October 18, “Mark was admitted to Baton Rouge General Hospital Thursday morning after his flight arrived for the concert with Alabama. He is still in the hospital today for testing on a low sodium count and very high blood pressure. He is stable.”

Chesnutt had been scheduled to headline the One Portales Wine, Beer and Music Festival in Portales, New Mexico, on Saturday, October 18, but that appearance has now been canceled as he continues medical testing and recovery.

“Mark wants to apologize to the fans who came to see him in Baton Rouge and also to those who had planned to see him today in Portales, New Mexico. He hopes to be back to perform in both cities soon,” his rep relayed to Fox News.

Organizers of the event — held in conjunction with the 52nd Annual Peanut Valley Festival —announced the cancellation on the website, citing “unforeseen circumstances.”

Eastern New Mexico University, which oversees the event, shared the following message on Instagram:

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, Mark Chesnutt will no longer be able to perform at the One Portales Wine, Beer and Music Festival. We unfortunately will have to cancel the event. Refunds will be emailed to all ticket buyers in the upcoming days. We apologize for this cancellation and hope to bring another high-quality act to Portales in the future.”

On Facebook, prayers are pouring in from fans who hope Chesnutt is going to be OK.

“Just as great as ever! Please take care of yourself!” wrote one fan.

Another added, “I sure hate we didn’t get to see you last night but you’re band did you proud! Hope you feel better.”

“Prayers Mark and the team! … Hope the docs visit went OK and the tests goes well to get things adjusted! God will have ya rocking back soon … Prayers always! Love y’all very much,” wrote a third fan.

A String of Recent Health Scares

The update marks Chesnutt’s third major health setback in less than two years.

In November 2023, he was hospitalized for undisclosed reasons and underwent a medical evaluation before postponing several concerts.

Then, in June 2024, he revealed that he had undergone emergency quadruple bypass surgery after a heart-related issue landed him in the hospital.

At the time, he told fans:

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the cancellation of my upcoming shows. I send my love and gratitude to my family and friends, the band and fans for your understanding, prayers and support, and look forward to seeing you all again soon at a honky tonk near you.”

Hailing from Beaumont, Texas, Chesnutt rose to fame in the early 1990s as part of the neo-traditionalist wave that also launched the careers of Alan Jackson, Clint Black, and Tracy Lawrence.

His chart-topping hits — including “It Sure Is Monday,” “Almost Goodbye,” “Gonna Get a Life,” and “It’s a Little Too Late” — cemented his reputation as one of country’s most authentic voices.

He’s won multiple CMA and ACM Awards, and his classic sound continues to inspire new generations of artists and fans alike.

As of press time, no further updates have been issued on Chesnutt’s condition or his remaining fall tour dates, which were set to continue through mid-November across Indiana, West Virginia, and Ohio.
