Although it’s been over 14 years since the Prince William and Kate Middleton wedding, royal fans are only just realising one blunder on the day. The royal couple tied the knot in Westminster Abbey in London on April 29, 2011.
The pair, who now have three children together, first locked eyes at the University of St Andrews in 2001 before officially becoming an item two years later. It wasn’t until 2010 the couple announced their engaged on November 16. Now despite saying their ‘I dos’ back in 2011, royal fans have noticed a small mistake Prince William made on the day.
Following the ceremony, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were greeted by millions of cheering fans who gathered the streets of London. They then made their way to Buckingham Palace where the late-Queen hosted a reception.
Then when it was time for them to leave, Prince William and Kate got into a vintage Aston Martin – which was a gift to King Charlies by his mother on his 21st birthday.
While the couple looked happy as ever, many fans might not have realised the drama that was going on for the lovebirds in the car.
Taking to Instagram, a video of the moment was shared onto ‘quickpastfacts’ page, where the couple were seen waving to people from the car as they made their way to Clarence House, where he lived at the time.

But the text on the video revealed: “When Prince William drove Catherine from Buckingham Palace, with the handbreak still on. Even fairytales have their funny moments.”
They went on to write in the caption of the video: “There are few moments more endearing than the day after their wedding, when Prince William, in his excitement, drove Catherine away from Buckingham Palace in his father’s Aston Martin-with an L-plate on the car and the handbrake still on yes, he later confessed he hadn’t released it in his joy!”
Arthur Edwards, the Sun’s royal photographer later revealed what had happened on the BBC’s Desert Island Discs, as he said: “I was talking to (then) Prince Charles about that. I said: ‘Did you mind him borrowing your car?’ Because he loves that car. It was a birthday present from his mother on his 21st birthday.”
However, then-Prince Charles reassured Edwards that William had asked for permission before using it for his wedding day. But Edwards then went on to point out there seemed to have been a problem with the old sports car on the day in question.
King Charles then revealed to the photographer: “Yes. Because he didn’t take the handbrake off.”
Fans were left in stitches when learning this, as some took to the caption of the video to share their thoughts, as some also pointed out another detail about the decorated car.
“Why has it got L Plates was he a learner,” one person pointed out. To this, another viewer replied: “They’re learners in the wedding as in new ‘learners’ in marriage. It’s a British humour for us.”
A third viewer jokingly revealed: “For a moment I thought she was driving, then I remember they’re in the UK.”
