Perhaps seeking a sense of familiarity during this turbulent time, the Crown Princess opted to wear her Diamond Daisy Bandeau. A wedding gift from King Harald and Queen Sonja when Mette-Marit and Haakon tied the knot in 2001, the Edwardian piece has become a personal favourite for the royal, who has worn it on such illustrious occasions as the wedding of then-Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark in 2004.

In addition to the classic headpiece, Matte Marit wore her interchangeable pendant earrings, which she typically wears with their pearl fixtures, including on such occasions as the wedding of Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, her in-laws’ 80th birthday banquet, and the 50th birthday gala dinner in honour of then-Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark. In a sign of how important the earrings are to Crown Princess Mette-Marit, she has ensured that her daughter, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, also wears them, with the future heir to the throne selecting them for her Confirmation Dinner in 2018.

Pinned to her dress was a Pearl Brooch that once belonged to Princess Ragnhild, the late older sister of King Harald, who moved to Brazil and married her erstwhile bodyguard. The provenance of the brooch is unknown, but The Royal Watcher suggests that it was likely from the jewellery box of Queen Maudy, Crown Princess Martha, or Princess Ingeborg of Sweden. Mette-Marit completed the gala ensemble with a diamond rivière that once belonged to Queen Maud, as well as Maud’s Order of Victoria and Albert bracelet, which was gifted to the former Princess of Wales on her Confirmation, which was also the wedding anniversary of her parents, King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. The bracelet has also been worn by Princess Ingrid Alexandra when she welcomed Icelandic President Halla Tomasdottir for a state banquet.
