Margot Robbie’s next role is under discussion.
A source told The Sun on Monday that the Australian actress may be stepping into Christian Bale’s shoes as the serial killer Patrick Bateman in the remake of the popular horror film, American Psycho.
The film was released in 2001 and was based on a book of the same title written in 1991 by Bret Easton Ellis. The controversy surrounding Ellis’s American Psycho stems from its extreme graphic violence and its portrayal of misogyny, racism and homophobia. Critics condemned the book for what they saw as its hateful content and for being a gratuitous depiction of violence, leading to boycotts and a last-minute publisher change. The story follows Bateman, a wealthy and narcissistic Wall Street investment banker in the late 1980s who leads a double life as a serial killer.

According to the source, they revealed that Robbie will be playing “a female version of Patrick Bateman” in the remake.
“Brett’s novel and the film were so controversial and the people working on the remake wanted to twist the narrative by having a female actress take on the lead of Bateman,” the source continued. “There was a huge backlash about misogyny when the novel came out back in the 90s, and by having a female killer, it puts a different spin on the crimes.”
So far, the movie is still in its very early stages of production and “finer details are still being ironed out, but everyone that is involved in the process so far have said they are so excited to get it announced and start work.”
Neither Robbie nor any production company has filed an official statement.
