Sarah Ferguson has been at the centre of a number of scandals over the years, and one of the most explosive was when she was caught on camera offering access to Prince Andrew in exchange for cash.Royal Sarah 'Fergie' Ferguson storms out of fiery interview(Image: 60 Minutes Australia)

There has been fierce public backlash in recent weeks targeting Prince Andrew and his former wife, Sarah Ferguson, who once walked out of an explosive interview.

A bombshell biography about the ex-couple, published during the summer months, has reignited focus on the numerous scandals they have been embroiled in throughout the years, and they now confront mounting pressure to vacate their longtime residence at Royal Lodge.

From their purportedly extensive extramarital affairs and extravagant lifestyles – including their spending patterns – through to their connections with billionaire paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, the former pair have endured relentless examination of virtually every facet of their existence.

Mere days before Epstein victim Virginia Giuffre’s posthumous autobiography was published, Andrew declared he would be relinquishing his Royal titles and honours, following a 10-minute telephone conversation with his “furious and weary” brother, King Charles.

Giuffre alleged that Andrew sexually assaulted her on three occasions whilst she was a teenager, claims he categorically refutes, reports the Mirror.

Correspondence that both Fergie and Andrew dispatched to Epstein has also recently surfaced, revealing a sharp contradiction to their public statements regarding the convicted sex offender.

Sarah is well-acquainted with finding herself at the centre of significant scandal.

In 2010, she was exposed by undercover reporters from the now-defunct News of the World attempting to sell access to Prince Andrew and exploit his Royal position for £500,000. “£500,000 to me when you can, open doors,” Fergie was caught on videotape saying regarding her ex-husband, with the fake businessman saying to her, “It’s a deal?” with Sarah replying, “Yes,” before shaking his hand.

When the scandal erupted, Andrew was reportedly compelled to intervene and settle some of Sarah’s outstanding debts. During a confrontational interview with 60 Minutes Australia the subsequent year, Fergie admitted she had “betrayed” herself, revealing she endured a “hell of shame” following her actions.

The explosive interview became increasingly heated, with Fergie even walking out at one point.

“Not only did I betray myself, because I believed him,” Fergie initially stated, speaking more composedly about the incident, “and I didn’t follow my instinct, I think that’s the most difficult thing to live with.”

Nevertheless, when pressed further regarding the incident, matters rapidly deteriorated, with the interviewer branding it “toxic”.

“Don’t try and trick me now,” she snapped when questioned whether she had accepted the £40,000 cash offered to her as a “deposit” by the bogus businessman during the encounter. “I’m not going to play this game.”

Fergie then gestured towards the camera and insisted, “Delete that bit,” whilst summoning her Australian representative, who was positioned off camera, to intervene.

The interviewer maintained his enquiries were legitimate, highlighting that he was questioning her about content she had addressed in her autobiography, Finding Sarah. “That’s done, it’s finished, I’ve answered it,” Fergie retorted heatedly.

Clearly irritated and sighing heavily, Sarah was then asked if she was grateful for any aspects of the scandal, to which she responded frostily, “Sorry, what’s your question?”.

After acknowledging that it had been a wake-up call, Sarah began speaking to her representative off-camera once more, before abruptly leaving the interview set – causing the interviewer to throw his hands up in frustration.

Sarah eventually returned, but the atmosphere of the interview remained tense, leading the interviewer to remark he felt as though he had gone from “confidant to commoner”.

Sarah is reportedly on the verge of a “nervous breakdown” amid the current controversy she is embroiled in, with charities she had long collaborated with severing ties with her in recent weeks, many deeming it “inappropriate” to maintain their professional relationship with her.
