Stranger Things Season 5 – everything you need to know after trailer release | Yap Session

Stranger Things season five is coming. You’re a fan. Oh, I love it. I mean, am I? I haven’t seen it in three years. Stranger Things I hardly knew her. Where has she been? Literally, where has she been? I mean, this was Netflix’s most recent big hit. Except they were on hiatus for so long that now Netflix when you It’s not the Stranger Things channel or streamer. It’s like true crime and Ryan Murphy Monster and all this other stuff. I forgot Stranger Things hadn’t finished. I was just going to say I feel like everybody almost forgot about Stranger Things. It was the moment like she was the girl when it came out originally and then the next season came out. Then we had the pandemic and they had to wait. So then that kind of threw things off. The kids aren’t kids anymore. They’re not. No, they’re grown. They have 401ks. They’re adults. No, literally Bobby Brown is married and has a child. She’s John Bon Joy’s daughter-in-law. Like the world has moved on. The world has moved on. Things have changed. I It’s going to be really interesting to see how they incorporate that because so we didn’t see season 4 until 2022 and they split that up into two parts. So, we haven’t had any new episodes from Stranger Things since July of 2022. Over three years. Over three years. And I know they filmed this a while ago, like they had to do all the editing and all that jazz, but what like how are they going to springboard to where the kids are now? because we left off at a very crucial point in the series and all of a sudden they’re just going to be like tying up those loose ends and making them older or are they supposed to act the age that they were? Yeah. Look, I’m not a proponent of AI, but if that’ll speed this whole process up, like they’re spending too much time on these edits, making rewrites after rewrite. CGI alone, I mean, are they doing it themselves? Is this like the every everything? They’re trying to figure out how to work Pro Tools, right? No, seriously. But the thing that I do love about this show is that the original cast keeps coming back. So we still have Millie, we’ve got all the boys, Winona Ryder is in it, and David Harour, who also has had a lot of life happen in the last few years. Yeah. He divorced and then her album just came out this week and it’s dropping all the dirt about their open marriage and you know, he’s trying to spin it, you know, play play dad of the year. He’s like going to the theme park with his kids and everything’s fine. Nothing to see here. here. Yeah, life has happened while Stranger Things was on hiatus. This is not the first time this has happened, though. Euphoria used to play with us all the time. How many years between seasons? It’s like true. We get it. I mean, even Atlanta, there’s so many shows that it’s like they just like to take their time. They’re like, you’ll get it when you get it. You’re going to get it when you get it. Yeah. Well, so we’ll have to take it. My favorite Stranger Things scandal that happened during the past couple years was the whole Doaat Joseph Quinn romance. Yes. So, if you guys remember, this is very page 60, but but supposedly Doaat slid into Noah Shap’s DMs, who may have been 17 at the time, and she was like, “Hey, can you hook me up with your co-star Joseph? He’s really cute.” This is the story again. And he then in a very teenage moment like put her on blast and was like, “Can you believe she’s reaching out to a minor to blah blah blah?” And it’s like, “Not a good wingman.” No. Yeah, it worked. DOA and Joseph are together. His character, spoiler alert, is dead. He’s not coming back for season 5, but their romance is is is blooming. All well, that ends well. That’s what I say. Yeah. You know what? His character was so good in the show. He had such an amazing character arc because he kind of started as this really rough and tough rocker guy. Didn’t want to be bad boy. Didn’t want to be messed with anybody. He couldn’t be bothered. And then the end he literally sacrifices him well the end of his story. Yeah. He sacrifices himself. H we are gonna miss him. It’s really sad that he won’t have any kind of camp. You never know with these shows that are sci-fi because it’s like they could tie back some way to the Human Torch. He’s Johnny Storm. He’s on Fantastic 4 and he’s going to be in the Avengers Beatles. Yeah. He’s he’s got a lot going on. showed this show has launched some big careers and it’s it’s tricky because when you have child stars growing up on on screen, it doesn’t always work out. Sometimes the cute little kid becomes kind of a weird looking adult, you know, as we’ve seen so many times. But so far, I think all of the cast is has like a good future ahead of them. They just have to get the show going. They got to get it on the road, right? They’re they’re probably also like, can we move on? But at least we get a few new episodes. So, they’re splitting up this season again, which I kind of like. It’s a little I do enjoy this. I know maybe it’s a hot take, but I enjoy it because we’re kind of giving me a little bit more bang for my buck, right? Like split let let the season kind of play out and then I can really savor it, you know, if it’s the last one. That’s fair. I feel like I want it all immediately, but how I what I do like about it to your to your point is that like they’re not making us wait that long. So, a few episodes in November, then we’ll get I think two on Christmas Day. the finale on New Year’s Eve. So, it’s spread out, but they’re not making us wait that long. It’s very English, too, to like put out an an episode of television on Christmas. You know, the the English tradition is, you know, to have your favorite TV show has a Christmas special, you know? So, everyone sits around after opening their presents and watches a family-friendly show. And Stranger Things, while I find it a little too scary for me, like, you know, the the monsters are like, “Okay, I’m like, “All right, I can’t sleep now.” But like, it is very like familyfriendly. all ages can enjoy it. And we haven’t really had like a show like that, a monoculture show where the entire family can sit around the fire and watch Stranger Things. Like Game of Thrones is like the Christmas tree and watch the the destruction. Yeah. Demoral demogorgans. Demogorgan. Thank you. That should be the word of the year. Demogorgan. You know it will be true. But like Game of Thrones, everyone was watching. Succession, everyone was watching. But those shows were rated R. Hard R. We’ve got Incest. We’ve got fbombs like Stranger Things. It’s cute. And it’s also, I think, spawned a bunch of, you know, you know, other shows like, you know, it Welcome to Dairy, uh, is coming out and and that show is like from this Stephen King universe and Stranger Things is definitely pulling heavily from Stephen King and from it. And so, I think this is opening up a whole world of this small town horror, supernatural world that like people love. Isn’t there something so cozy about it? Something so fall, something so holiday, something so sweater, something so hot chocolate in your hand. You know what I mean? With a fire. You know, I’m in your family, too. Yeah. You might get scared. You might be stuck in a haunted house. It’s terrifying. But at the end of the day, I’ve got my hot cocoa driving, you know, like driving down a street on Christmas week. The families are all home. You can see in the windows the TV, the the lights are on. The TV is blaring Stranger Things and you’re like, “Oh, uh, what are they watching?” Yeah. Just some terrifying television casually. There are some kids being attacked in that. I don’t know. But I’m excited for it. We’re definitely going to have to watch that season. It’s going to be so good. It’s sad it’s the end, but all good things must come to But the show was always rooted in nostalgia. I mean, having like Winona Ryder on the show, I mean, she was my my girl from the 80s and the ‘9s. Heathers is one of my favorite movies of all time. So, having like Winona Ryder have a career comeback because of Stranger Things, you know, the creators of the show knew what they were doing. It’s sort of instant nostalgia. So, and because it’s set in that time period, too. It’s like it takes us back and it takes us through all the emotions and oh, I just love that. I can’t wait for it. One of the kids has has that jacket that I had when I was a kid, that like puffer jacket that was like the bright orange and navy blue. You still have that, Brian? I wish I wish I could still fit into it. It’ll be sold in Urban Outfitters in 5 minutes, right? It’ll be part of a Stranger Things line come the end of November when the show comes out. Absolutely. And I still saw I’m sorry. When I opened up Instagram last week, I saw an 11 and Winona Ryder couples costume. So, it’s still happening. People are still doing it. Like the my friend didn’t have the ego waffles. You know, that reference is maybe a little too old, but you know, if you’ve got a buzz cut and you found a hospital gown and you do a little blood down the nose, you’re 11.
