Ryan Seacrest has lost his father, Gary, to a lengthy battle with prostate cancer.
The “American Idol” host revealed his father last week in an emotional Instagram post on Friday, Oct. 31.
“It is with a heavy heart that I share with you that my loving father peacefully passed away earlier this week,” Seacrest wrote in the post, which included several family photos.
“My mom, sister and I have peace knowing he is in a better place and free of any pain or suffering,” he continued. “We are heartbroken. He was a devoted husband for 56 years, an incredible Papa to Flora, and my best friend. Dad you will live in our hearts forever. I love you.”
Gary had been fighting prostate cancer for years, Parade reported. The family had previously believed the cancer was no longer detectable, but Ryan revealed in July that his father’s condition had deteriorated.
The announcement prompted an outpouring of sympathy from celebrities in the comments section.
Former “American Idol” judge and ‘80s pop star Paula Abdul wrote, “Ryan, my heart goes out to you. I’m so sorry for your loss. Thinking of you and sending you and your family endless love and strength 🤍 May he rest in peace.”
Meanwhile current judge Lionel Richie commented, “Sending you love and strength, Ryan.Thinking of you and your family.”
“The Vampire Diaries” star Kat Graham, singing legend Gloria Estefan and radio personality Elvis Duran were among the other celebrities who expressed their condolences.
