It hasn’t been a great time to be a member of the royal family — it’s been scandal after scandal over the last few months. But Prince William believes he’s the man who must save the palace from itself.

The biggest concern for the Prince of Wales is losing the public’s affection for the royal family. The palace needs their approval desperately in an era when anti-monarchists are rallying against them, and Gen Z is showing a general disinterest in their privileged lives. That’s where Prince William enters the chat.

“He wants the Crown to mean something again,” a palace insider told Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack. “He’s not content with ribbon-cutting.” According to reports, there’s a strategic plan with a catchy name: “The Fix.” Besides righting the ship after Prince Andrew’s involvement with Jeffrey Epstein, the Prince of Wales hopes to modernize the monarchy, which is something his father, King Charles III, has failed to do.

The source noted that William doesn’t want to “wait for the throne,” he’s starting to assert his authority now — and the reason is simple. “William believes if he doesn’t save it, no one will,” the insider added.

There have already been rumors that William will eventually remove royal titles once he’s on the throne, per The Royalist Substack. It is believed that “Beatrice, Eugenie, Harry, Archie, and Lilibet” will have their “princely titles” removed at some point. Harry and Meghan Markle “will also see their dukedoms and HRHs formally revoked by the new king,” according to a royal insider, and he’s not stopping there.

William might also “park” the titles of his three children: Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, until they are adults. It would offer the royal children the option to become “full-time working royals or lead lives as private citizens” in the future.

It might feel like a nuclear option for William to defy the royal pecking order with his father still in the middle of his reign, but the Andrew situation was a cry for help. The royal family has been treading water since Queen Elizabeth II died in 2022, and William wants to prove that he’s ready to lead.
