Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, looked every inch the action hero at Sandringham on Wednesday, as the royal got stuck in with troops for a competition named in her honour. The Duchess of Edinburgh competition sees teams from the British and Canadian armed forces, all linked by Sophie’s military appointments, compete in tests of physical and cognitive prowess to see who can claim the Duchess of Edinburgh Cup.

Her Royal Highness certainly dressed for the occasion. While Sophie is perhaps best known for her demure approach to regal style, the Duchess donned a camouflage jacket and khaki trousers as she joined the troops in the mess hall and watched on while they completed simulated drone strikes, nuclear disarmament tests, and races holding dummies on stretchers. Sophie paired the utilitarian look with a smart black top, her beloved gold hoop earrings, and a British Legion poppy in preparation for Remembrance Day.
