Prince Harry was in Toronto this week for Canada’s Remembrance Day period, with royal watchers comparing him to his brother, Prince William, who was in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, at the same time.
The same day William was giving out EarthShot Prize awards, Harry was sitting down for lunch with the military charity True Patriot Love Foundation.
According to royal expert Pauline Maclaran, the timing is merely coincidental, this shouldn’t be seen as a competition between the two brothers, but even so, she does think there’s something going on, that Harry may be craving some alone time.
Maclaran, co-author of Royal Fever and Professor at Royal Holloway, said: “These visits by both William and Harry will have been planned months in advance, with neither aware of each other’s schedules.
“I think he’s just trying to raise his own profile, which continues to be overshadowed by Meghan’s activities.”
Meghan has been quite busy with her Netflix series, which has a Thanksgiving special coming out, and her lifestyle brand, which she’s seen promoting on Instagram.
Harry and Meghan made a joint visit to New York City for World Mental Health Day and with Harry making a solo visit to Toronto, it seems like it gives him a chance to do his own thing.
While in Toronto, Harry visited with the True Patriot Love Foundation, who invited the Duke to come visit, as he’s a proven advocate for military veterans.
Also, Toronto played host to the Invictus Games in 2017, so it appears to be a good fit for Harry to return, as he has put down roots there.
“Harry will have strong networks there, especially with the military,” said Maclaran.

There was some talk about Harry purposely announcing his trip the same day William landed in Brazil but Maclaran thinks it was just a coincidence.
And while the gossip may prove bothersome to the royals, Maclaran believes it’s helpful because it puts a spotlight on their causes.
“In fact the speculation around the brothers draws people into gossip about the relationship.”
“This also draws attention to what they are doing and highlights their causes at the same time.”
