Influencer Madeleine White faced backlash online after she posted photos and videos attending a rave with pink eye

“I’m just going to cover it up with sparkles and a pair of sunglasses and call it a goddamn day,” she told her followers, getting ready for the event

Commenters slammed the creator, saying that it was irresponsible to party with such a contagious condition

A U.K. influencer is facing blowback online for heading out to a rave in Orlando with pink eye over the weekend.

On Saturday, Nov. 8, Madeleine White shared a video to her TikTok doing her makeup for her 30th birthday party, revealing that she had contracted conjunctivitis — the condition commonly known as pink eye — but was still planning to head out to a rave attended by “like 100,000 other people.”

“I’m just going to cover it up with sparkles and a pair of sunglasses and call it a goddamn day,” she told her followers, both eyes visibly red.

In the video, she claimed that she caught the condition from her husband Andrew Fedyk, who “gave himself” pink eye using green makeup for his Halloween costume.

“I really didn’t know that it was contagious,” she said, admitting it was her first run in with pink eye. “I thought he got it from the makeup. I didn’t know that I could get it. I was definitely nowhere near as cautious as I should’ve been with him.”

In the comments, several people slammed White for the decision to attend a rave with pink eye, writing that the condition is highly contagious and that she risked spreading it to the thousands of others at the rave.

“Girl pink eye is literally VERY CONTAGIOUS, the doctors will give you days off because of this??” wrote one.

“This is very contagious for you to be out the house around a bunch of people 😭😭” penned another.

Posted a third: “Hey I really love u mads but this is not okay.”

According to the CDC, when conjunctivitis is caused by viruses or bacteria, it is “highly contagious” and can spread through close personal contact, contact with airborne droplets or through infected surfaces. When conjunctivitis is spurred by allergens or irritants, it is “not contagious” person to person.

On Nov. 9, White posted a video to her second TikTok account laughing alongside the overlaid text, “Today I learned conjunctivitis / pink eye is treated very differently in the US that the UK lol.”

“Back in the day I didn’t even get a day off school for this…” she added in the caption.

A rep for White did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

After her birthday celebrations, White shared a carousel of photos to Instagram that included a snap from the rave in which her eyes appeared to be red.

“30, flirty + in bed for the foreseeable future ❤️ feeling very loved,” she captioned the post.
