Sydney Sweeney shares how she lost 30 pounds in under two months following ‘Christy’ role
Sydney Sweeney is opening up about the intense and strict regimen she followed to lose 30 pounds in less than two months. In a recent interview with People, she explained that the transformation came after she intentionally gained weight for her boxing biopic Christy, a film based on the life of professional boxer Christy Martin. To prepare for the physically demanding role, Sweeney says she had been eating large amounts of food and taking supplements like protein shakes and creatine to build muscle mass. But once filming wrapped, she decided it was time to slim down fast. The 28-year-old revealed she stopped working out altogether and cut out the protein shakes. Within 2 weeks, she said she lost much of the muscle she had gained, the first thing to go before fat, as she put it. She also gave up creatine, which she explained had been causing bloating, and switched to what she called a super clean diet, paired with a lot of cardio. Sweenie only had seven weeks before beginning work on The Housemaid and season 3 of Euphoria, leaving her little time to return to her usual shape. “I had to be really strict with myself,” she told the outlet. Though she admitted this might be the only time she changes her body so drastically for a role. When images from the Christy set surfaced online, critics took to social media to body shame the actress, calling her frumpy and too pale. But Sweeney hit back with a powerful video showing her intense training, flipping tires, pulling cables, and proving the physical strength behind her transformation. According to a source close to Sweeney, portraying Christy Martin was deeply personal. The role, they said, helped Sweeney find inner strength after a difficult period in her own life, reminding her who she is. When she first announced the project, Sweeney wrote that she was honored to tell the story of a true champion who fought battles both inside and outside the ring. While Christy didn’t make a big splash at the box office, Sweeney remains proud of the work, recently reminding fans that we don’t always just make art for numbers, we make it for impact. For Sweeney, the transformation reflected her dedication to her craft and the physical and mental discipline it demands.
