Loud marked as Rihanna’s fifth studio album and was released on November 12, 2010. Primarily a dance-pop and R&B record, Loud differs from Rihanna's previous, angry and dark-themed album Rated R.
The first single, Only Girl (In the World), was released on September 10, 2010. The lyrics describe Rihanna demanding physical attention from her lover. The second single, What’s My Name?, was released on October 25, 2010, featuring rapper Drake. The lyrics incorporate themes of romance and sex. The third single, Raining Men, was released on December 7, 2010, and the lyrics revolve around how there is an endless supply of men available in the world. The fourth single, S&M, was released on January 23, 2011, and the lyrics talk about sexual intercourse, sadomasochism, bondage, and fetishes. The fifth single, Man Down, was released on May 3, 2011, and is about her being a fugitive after she shoots a man, an action she later regrets. The sixth single, California King Bed, was released on May 13, 2011, and was considered a "break-up song" that talks about "the waking death of a relationship, the stage of limbo before the final crash." The seventh and last single, Cheers (Drink to That), was released on August 2, 2011, and is about a party song featuring multiple references to the weekend.
