‘DWTS’ recap: Prince William’s cameo, Tom Bergeron’s return & a bittersweet elimination
Our honorary guest judge for the night, Mr. Tom Bers. Hi, sweetheart. I am thrilled to be here tonight. The ballroom was star-studded Tuesday night as Dancing with the Stars celebrated its 20th birthday party. The festivities began with a stunning opening number choreographed by none other than Derek Huff, featuring the show’s current pros and troop members dancing alongside six original dancers from season 1. And the milestone bash of course could not be complete without the long awaited return of former co-host Tom Berseron, who brought the energy and plenty of jokes all throughout the night while serving as a guest judge. In addition to all of the familiar faces fans got to see in the ballroom, the night was filled with plenty of must-see performances. Here are the top five moments from Tuesday’s 20th birthday party show. Coming in at number five, Alex Earl and Valish Marovsky’s singing in the rain performance inspired by Neve Schulman and Jenna Johnson season 29 freestyle. The classy old Hollywood routine earned the dance duo a perfect score with Derek Hoff calling it a flawless box and Bruno Tonioli joking that it sent them to ballroom heaven. Alex has been such an amazing contender with many calling her a front runner from the first episode and this performance was a clear example of why she deserves to stay in the competition and hopefully make it to the finale. At number four, Dylan Efron and Daniela Caragash’s epic Argentine tango to Ain’t No Sunshine. Oh my goodness. Dylan said in his pre-taped interview package that he felt a breakthrough coming. And that’s exactly what happened Tuesday night. As you can see, all four of the judges gave the routine a perfect 10 with the best comment coming from Tom Berseron. He told the Traers alum, “I know your brother Zack Efron is the actor, but you’re the leading man. Could not be any more true.” Next at number three, Whitney Levit and Mark Ballas’s Argentine Tango to Cellblock Tango. The Secret Lives of Mormon Wife star continues to impress us week to week, but this perfect scoring routine really had it all. As Derek Huff so perfectly put it, there was sharp technique, precise movement, and true passion, not to mention an epic Mormon call out from the lyrics featured in Chicago the musical. He had six wives, one of those Mormons, you know, some guys just can’t hold their arsenic. Whitney, this was so amazing. This is for sure a must-sea moment and a performance that will likely go down in Dancing with the Stars history. At number two, Robert Irwin and Whitney Carson’s surprise video message from Prince William. Yes, the Prince William. Whilst your twinkle toes are going off elsewhere, I need you down here. Robert explained in his pre-taped interview package that he was supposed to be in Brazil with the royal for the Earth Shot Prize, but unfortunately had to back out due to his commitment to Dancing with the Stars. The Prince of Wales, however, hopped on a Zoom call to wish Robert and Whitney luck as they rehearsed for this week’s show. Clearly, they delivered on William’s wish as they received a perfect score for their fox to Footprints in the Sand. The routine was inspired by a freestyle Robert’s sister Bindy Irwin performed with Derek Huff ahead of their season 21 Mirrorball win. At the end of the performance, Bindy even made a surprise appearance in the ballroom dancing with Robert as an incredible video played featuring their late dad, Steve Irwin. Taking the number one spot, we have to give it up to Andy Richtor, who had the whole ballroom laughing during the relay round. Taking the dance floor with former Mirrorball champion Caitlyn Bristo, he ripped off his shirt at one point to reveal a hilarious tea emlazed with fake abs. The creative move was of course an attempt to win over the judges as he competed against heartthrob Dylan Efron and his guest relay partner Rumor Willis. Sadly, however, at the end of Tuesday night’s show, Andy, whom many have dubbed the people’s champion of season 34, was eliminated with his pro partner, Emma Slater. He told viewers in the final moments of the show that doing Dancing with Stars has changed his life. And despite having to go home, he still feels like a winner. Andy, speaking on behalf of all of the fans, thank you so much for bringing so much fun to Dancing with the Stars this season. And please, please, please stay on TikTok. We need all of your content to continue coming post Dancing with the Stars. Now, that being said, the competition has only been heating up, and we only have 2 weeks left of season 34. I can’t believe I’m even saying that. So, now let me get to the six couples who will be competing in next week’s semifinals. They are just one step closer to winning the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy. The season 34 semifinalists are Whitney and Mark, Dylan and Daniela, Alex and Val, Robert and Whitney, Elaine and Allan, and Jordan and Ezra. Before we get into next week, be sure to stay tuned to page six as we continue giving you all the Dancing the Stars content. See you next week.
