Paris Jackson faces significant hurdle in her legal battle with Michael Jackson’s estate

Paris Jackson has hit a major bump in the road in her legal dispute with her late father, Michael Jackson’s estate as a new ruling from a Los Angeles judge delivered a significant setback. Though Paris isn’t backing down. On November 10th, Judge Mitchell L. Beckoff struck most of Paris’s complaint, citing California’s anti-slap statute. Now, if you’re not familiar, anti-slap laws are designed to stop lawsuits that are filed mainly to silence someone’s protected speech or petitioning activity. Essentially, they’re meant to prevent people from using the courts to intimidate or punish others for speaking up. Because of that ruling, only a small portion of Paris’s original complaint is still active. But according to a spokesperson who spoke with Page 6, Paris isn’t discouraged. In fact, she plans to refile. Her spokesperson said, quote, “This order is limited to minor procedural issues and does not change the facts. Paris will continue working to ensure her family is treated fairly. We will be submitting an updated filing shortly. Paris first filed her petition back in June. In it, she said she was concerned about certain payments being made by the estate. The filing accused executives John Brana and John Mlan of issuing unapproved bonus payments to multiple law firms, more than $600,000 in 2018 alone. According to the court documents, these payments appeared to be, in Paris’s words, lavish cuitities for attorneys who were already well compensated. But the executives pushed back in their own filings. In an October court document, they argue that Paris herself has benefited enormously from the estate, alleging she has received around $65 million in various benefits over the years. They claim she wouldn’t have seen that level of support had they managed the estate in a more traditional conservative way after Michael’s death in 2009. It’s important to note that Paris’s team has not officially responded to that figure. The executives also highlighted what they say is their successful stewardship of Michael’s legacy, transforming what they described as an estate weighed down by debt into a powerhouse valued at roughly $2 billion today. And layered on top of all this, the estate is still navigating other major legal challenges, including a combined $400 million claim from Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who have accused Michael Jackson of sexual abuse, allegations the estate has consistently denied. So, for now, Paris Jackson is regrouping and preparing her next legal move. While most of her complaint has been struck, the fight clearly isn’t over.

Paris Jackson faces a major setback in her legal battle with Michael Jackson’s estate after a judge strikes most of her complaint under California’s anti-SLAPP statute. Despite the ruling, her team says she plans to refile and continue pushing for what she believes is fair treatment.
