Meghan Markle may now be famous worldwide for being married to Prince Harry, the youngest son of King Charles, but there was once a time when she was married to someone else. Before saying “I do” to her prince in 2018, Meghan said the same words to her ex-husband Trevor Engelson in 2011.
The pair married in 2011 after meeting in 2004, and later divorced in 2013. The Duchess of Sussex then wed Prince Harry in 2018 after a whirlwind romance of just short of two years.
While Meghan’s husband has rarely commented on the duchess’ life now, it is believed he had one surprising 3-word response to the news she was dating the prince in 2016.
This was revealed by Bethenny Frankel on The Toast podcast, with Bethenny having met Trevor years ago at a bar.
She said that they only talked briefly and kept in touch over text very occasionally, with one of these text interactions being about Meghan, 44.
Bethenny, who met Trevor at Soho House in Chicago, explained: “He said his ex was a woman from a show called Suits. Months later I see pictures in US weekly of Harry dating someone and I text him to say ‘is this your ex?’.”
Trevor confirmed it was his ex Meghan dating Prince Harry, with Bethenny saying she then texted him back saying: “Do you think she’ll close?”
His reply was: “Oh, she’ll close.”
No more information was shared by Bethenny, and it is not exactly sure what “close” means in this context.
Meghan and Harry have been happily married for seven years now, with five of them spent living in Montecito in California.
This move came about in 2020, less than two years after the couple wed, when they quit royal life and moved across the pond.
