Olivia Munn opened up about John Mulaney’s intimate proposal with a funny backdrop
She shared that while Mulaney popped the question, there was a sign in the background that read “No diarrhea”

Olivia Munn is sharing new details surrounding her husband John Mulaney’s marriage proposal and why the photos aren’t exactly as romantic as she’d have liked.
While co-hosting Today with Jenna & Friends on Wednesday, Nov. 19, Munn recalled her comedian husband’s missteps on the way to popping the question.
“John texted my best friend and said, ‘Hey could you ask Olivia what she would want for a proposal?’ ” Munn recalled. “When she said, ‘What do you want?’ I said, ‘I just don’t want my family there. I don’t want anybody there. I don’t want a big display.’ ”
And it’s a good thing he asked because Mulaney had apparently been planning the family-filled event that the Newsroom star didn’t want.
“I found out later he was like, ‘Oh, I was gonna bring her family in and her mom,’ that was the exact opposite [of what I wanted],” she said, laughing.

Instead, Mulaney decided to pop the question while they were staying at the Bel Air Hotel.
“He did it on the balcony,” she explained. “But if you’ve been to the Bel Air Hotel, it’s not been updated. It sounds fancy because it says ‘Bel Air,’ but it’s not been updated and we had this nice, he upgraded to the nice suite. There’s a hot tub out there but the hot tub is a little…[iffy].”
However, it was the signs behind the hot tub that turned out to be the real problem.
“Right behind the hot tub, there are eight signs and one of them says ‘No diarrhea,’ ” Munn said. “And so in my engagement photos you just see [‘No Diarrhea’]… if you zoom in. He didn’t know.

PEOPLE exclusively confirmed that Munn and Mulaney, who share son Malcolm, almost 4, and daughter Méi, 1, tied the knot over the Fourth of July weekend in 2024, though it’s unclear exactly when they got engaged as they didn’t discuss the engagement until after their wedding.

Munn previously opened up about lying to her husband-to-be ahead of their wedding during an April appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
“My best friend Corinne, she texts me and says, ‘Hey are you alone?’ Immediately I turned to John and say, ‘Oh my God. Corinne just asked if I’m alone. She wants to tell me something really interesting. I’m gonna go call her,’ ” Munn recalled on the Tonight Show. “So I immediately betray her by telling him that she wants to talk alone. And when I go in the other room and call her, she says, ‘Hey, John called me. He doesn’t want me to ask you directly, but is there anything that you want for your proposal?’ “
When Mulaney asked about the phone call, Munn “panicked” and told him that Corinne was having issues in her marriage.
“I said, ‘She’s having really bad trouble in her marriage,’ ” the actress admitted, adding that she told her husband that Corinne and her husband Chris hadn’t been intimate in six months.
