Kate Winslet’s ‘sheer’ embarrassment meeting Charles III

First time I met him, oh my goodness, he had come to support the premiere, it was a royal premiere of Sense and Sensibility when I was only 20. And I sort of hadn’t realized that we were really going to meet him. And so I forgot about the fact that I really was wearing a kind of a transparent lace outfit. And thank God I’d worn a coat because as he’s making his way towards me, I’m like, “Nipples, nipples, nipples. Oh my god.” And then someone just went, “Oat.” And I went, “Your majesty.” During her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Kate Winslet ended up divulging the hilarious story about the questionable look she wore to meet King Charles III decades ago, back when he was Prince Charles. The memorable meeting took place at the 1996 premiere of her film Sense and Sensibility. For the occasion, she wore a totally sheer black lace jumpsuit with flat black sandals and a black coat. The actress has since had many more opportunities to choose outfits better suited to meet the royals. This summer, she became one of the ambassadors for the King’s Foundation, which supports small charities and crafts that have been outdated. For last night’s show, Winslet chose a more tailored black and white pinstriped suit with stiletto heels, though she nearly had a wardrobe malfunction. She confessed that she tripped walking out of her dressing room on her way to the stage. Winslet is on a press tour for the movie Goodbye June, which is written by her son, Joe Anders. Now nearly 22, Anders wrote the film when he was 19, pulling from his own family dynamics when his family came together upon the death of his grandmother, Winslett’s mother. Winslet is the film’s director, a producer, and also has an acting role in the movie. It is the first feature film directed by the 56-year-old, making it a milestone moment for both Winslett and her son. Winslett’s daughter, Mia Threppelton, has been acting since she was 13. She stars on the Apple TV series The Buccaneers and stars in the film The Phoenician Scheme that recently debuted at the Can Film Festival.

Kate Winslet appeared on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Tuesday night to discuss her directorial debut, but ended up divulging the questionable look she wore to meet King Charles III decades ago.

Harking back to the 1996 premiere of “Sense and Sensibility,” Winslet shared, “The first time I met him. Oh my goodness. He had come to support the royal premiere of ‘Sense and Sensibility’ when I was only 20.”

For the occasion, she wore a totally sheer black lace jumpsuit with flat black sandals and a black coat.
