Incomparable gravitas, unspeakable wrath, undeniable power — does this remind you of anyone? Well, you might be thinking of Scottish actor Brian Cox, but we’re actually talking about God, the ruler of the universe and creator of everything from Labubus to the sun in the sky. Mr. Feisty himself will be voicing God in a new, 52-episode-long Fox News podcast that will guide “listeners through the life and teachings of Christ.” It’s a dream part for an actor who loves to say how he feels about stuff with the utmost authority … except he already landed it. The podcast also features Kristen Bell as Mary Magdalene; she says her recording was for an audiobook from 15 years ago.

Bell’s reps told Rolling Stone that the actress only learned her voice would be repurposed for the podcast when she received a request to appear on Fox & Friends, adding that she never gave permission for her audiobook recording to be repurposed. A rep for John Rhys-Davies, who is purportedly narrating the show, said that the actor also only learned of the podcast role this week. In 2021, Cox referred to Fox News as “the devil,” which suggests that he may not have been up for the adaptation. For those who don’t want to wait for the podcast (or would rather not engage with Fox News at all), the original audiobook that all these stars lent their voices to is simply available at the time of writing.

So, did Cox know that he was going to be Fox News’ God? Or has he just been doing a kind of Method performance of stating his mind for the past several years with the hopes of getting cast as Fox News God one day? Representatives for Cox have yet to respond to a request for comment. In the meantime, Cox may be found brushing up on his commandments about Method acting and taking his disappointment with humanity out on Jeremy Strong.
