Meghan Markle had a very telling response to how she should be addressed, according to a senior staff member linked to the Invictus Games. Before the first winter games were held in Vancouver, Canada, Scott Moore was appointed as the charity’s new CEO to lead the delivery of the first-ever winter Invictus Games.

As written in Richard Eden’s column for the Daily Mail, he said: “I did make sure to ask how I should be addressing them when they get here.”

In a three-word request, Scott Moore was told: “‘Ma’am’ is fine.’ He was also told a simple ‘Sir’ was fine to address the Duke of Sussex.”

After Harry and Meghan’s shock decision to step down as senior working royals in 2020 they were told they were not allowed to use their HRH titles in a public capacity.

As a result, the couple are not allowed to be referred to as Your Royal Highness, however they were able to keep their Duke and Duchess of Sussex title as it was a wedding gift from the late Queen in 2018.

The request to be addressed as Sir and Ma’am is also in direct contrast to Harry’s decision in 2020 when he asked for delegates at a tourism conference in Edinburgh to address him simply as Harry. Before he gave a short speech, host Ayesha Hazarika told the audience: “He’s made it clear that we are all just to call him Harry.”

Ahead of the release of the festive episode of her lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan, on Netflix, the Duchess took part in a new interview with US magazine Harper’s Bazaar.

One of the main subjects Meghan touched on was how she deals with making mistakes, particularly when it comes to her As Ever business. She said: “You learn not to do it again. If it all goes swimmingly, you don’t learn from it. If you don’t learn anything, you’re not going to grow.”

Elsewhere in the chat, Meghan spoke about her life with Prince Harry and her role as a mother to Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. She said of her husband: “He loves me so boldly, fully, and he also has a different perspective because he sees media that I wouldn’t.

“No one in the world loves me more than him, so I know he’s always going to make sure that he has my back. You have someone who just has this childlike wonder and playfulness. I was so drawn to that, and he brought that out in me.”
