Elton John marked another major milestone, but this time, the heartfelt recognition was beyond music.

The iconic singer and songwriter was honored for his humanitarian efforts through his globally respected organization, The Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF).

Founded in 1992 in the United States and a year later in the United Kingdom, the non-profit organization is dedicated to advancing education, supporting innovative HIV prevention and providing direct care and services to people living with or at risk of the virus.

Thanks to its decades-long mission and commitment to saving lives, the five-time Grammy winner earned Variety’s Philanthropist of the Year 2025 award.

In their feature story, the publication highlighted the foundation’s extraordinary efforts to raise “more than $650 million and with matching grants, the total impact has gone over $1 billion.”

In response, John shared a touching message, expressing his deep gratitude for the meaningful recognition.

“Variety Philanthropist of the Year 2025! What an incredible and generous recognition – thank you, @variety!” he wrote, posting the publication’s special feature.

Moreover, the “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” hitmaker reflected on the foundation’s journey and what pushed him to start the EJAF.

“Nearly 35 years ago, after losing so many loved ones to AIDS, including my friend Ryan White, I sat at my kitchen table in Atlanta and created the Elton John AIDS Foundation. Today, @ejaf has raised more than $650 million and stands as the fifth-largest philanthropic funder of HIV work in the world. People trust our Foundation because they see the impact our team and partners deliver every single day – and that trust means everything to me. This cause has been my life’s work, and I am immensely proud of what we’ve built together, alongside @davidfurnish as Board Chair and @anneaslett as CEO. We have the tools to end AIDS for everyone, everywhere – and we cannot stop now,” he added.

The post immediately garnered praise and admiration from his fans, who commended his meaningful and influential work outside music.

“So well deserved; congratulations, Sir Elton!!” one wrote.

“Congratulations on your many endeavors, kindness and caring through the years, you are a blessing to the planet earth,” a follower added.

“You are so beautiful! Such an inspiration!” a fan echoed.

The same goes for another who said, “Congratulations @eltonjohn !! You have worked hard to end AIDS and this means a lot to the whole world.”

In addition, British lyricist and longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin also chimed in and noted “Nobody, nobody and not one of your peers comes close to what you do for humankind.”

Amid his incredible recognition, the award-winning singer is also dealing with health problems, having shared that his vision has been deteriorating.

During his summer vacation in France in 2024, he contracted an eye infection that caused permanent damage to both eyes.

Despite being blind in his right eye and experiencing worsening vision, he continues to feel fortunate and grateful for the life and work he has.

“I’m really, really lucky,” he told the outlet, adding “And this helps me, the AIDS Foundation, because when you think, ‘Oh, I’m really feeling sorry for myself,’ and you think of these people [affected by the crisis] and how much work we’ve gotta do, you soon come out of it.”
