ARIANA GRANDE ADDRESSES BACKLASH

You guys, we’ve got to talk about the fact that Ariana Grande is addressing all of the things that people have been saying about the cast of Wicked and what has happened to them. There’s been a lot of conversation happening surrounding the cast and how they look and it’s become this whole thing that Ariana is speaking out on. And we’re going to get into what she said and what everyone else has been saying with what should be an exciting time for the Wicked cast has turned into a whole body shaming drama. And honestly, this isn’t even the first time this has happened to someone like Ariana Grande. If you remember, the exact same conversation happened back in 2023 when people were flooding her comment sections and trending her name over her appearance. At the time she addressed this whole thing and posted a video letting people know that the old version of herself that everyone is comparing her to was actually the unhealthiest time in her life. and she opened up about what she was going through back then and how it’s not very nice for people to unknowingly think that they know she was healthier back then when it’s just not true. Hi everyone. I have made my coffee. I’m on my way to work soon. I just wanted to come on and I don’t do this often. I don’t like it. I’m not good at it. I don’t like I’m not good at it and I don’t like it. I just wanted to address your concerns about my body and talk a little bit about what it means to be a person with a body. I know personally for me, the body that you’ve been comparing my current body to was the unhealthiest version of my body. I was on a lot of anti-depressants and drinking on them and eating poorly. and at the lowest points of my life when I looked the way you consider my healthy but that in fact wasn’t my healthy um and I shouldn’t I know I shouldn’t have to explain that but I do feel like maybe having an openness and some sort of vulnerability here will be something like good might come from it I don’t the second thing is you never know what someone is going through so even if you are coming from a loving place and a caring place that person probably is working on it or has a support system that they are working on it with and you never know. So be gentle with each other. I think we should be gentler and less comfortable commenting on people’s bodies no matter what. If you think you’re saying something good or well-intentioned, whatever it is, healthy, unhealthy, big, small, this, that, sexy, not sex, I I don’t we just shouldn’t we should really work towards not doing that as much. there are ways to compliment someone or to ignore something that you see that you don’t like um that I think we should help each other. She also said on screen in small text, “You have talked a lot about it over the past decade or longer, so I’d like to join in this time.” And back in 2015, Ariana dealt with the same thing as she commented on the fact that she doesn’t like people judging looks. And it was in reference to Ariana being compared to Ariel Winter. And Ariana had this to say about it. she posted on Instagram saying, “Sigh tweets, comments, statements like this are not okay about anyone. We live in a day and age where people make it impossible for women, men, and anyone to embrace themselves exactly how they are. Diversity is sexy. Loving yourself is sexy. And you know what is not sexy? Misogyny, objectifying, labeling, comparing, and body shaming. Talking about people’s bodies as if they’re on display, asking for your approval/ opinion. They are not. Celebrate yourself. celebrate others. The things that make us different from one another, make us beautiful. Body boundaries, love, love, love only. And right now with the Wicked Press tour in full swing, people have been doing the opposite of what Ariana has asked of them. And they’ve been commenting heavily on not only Ariana Grande, but also Cynthia Revo and Michelle Yo. Tons of people have been posting videos just talking about the cast, comparing them to how they looked before they started filming. the Wicked movies compared to now how they look on the red carpet. So, this conversation has gotten really, really crazy. I mean, I do think that with so many people talking about being on Ozmpic, especially in the celebrity world, has opened up a whole floodgate for people to speculate on which celebrities are on what, and you know, is that what they’re doing? And people feel very comfortable making assumptions. Someone said the Wizard of Oz, and I nearly lost my life. You can’t scroll for longer than 5 seconds without seeing it. At the minute, everybody is talking about it. What the hell is going on with Cynthia and Ariana Grande? Half the internet saying they’re in love. Half the internet saying that they’ve been traumatically fused. And then some of us are just thinking, is that Wizard of Oz curse back? Something is seriously off with this. And you don’t need HD or a backstage pass to see it. After seeing the photos of Michelle Yo, like I’m just flabbergasted. I I don’t know what’s going on with this cast. I It’s honestly giving evil to me. And I know there’s been people saying like, “Oh, Wicked’s evil.” No, this is whatever is going on on that set with these women and if this is a competitive ed, I’m not sure. It’s just all very dark and I’m just not feeling it. That’s why I haven’t seen either movie to be honest with you. I’m just not feeling it. But I I really want to center this conversation on like we need to start having these discussions within our friends, our children, our family about, you know, weight loss, what’s considered healthy weight loss, what’s considered healthy and not, you know, just cuz I I this I’m afraid of where societyy’s going. Something is definitely going on with the whole wicked cast because this doesn’t make sense because what is going on with Michelle Yao? Like this is her before she was on Wicked. This is her as of the new Wicked for Good. And look how she looks. She looks no different than Cynthia or Ariana Grande. Like even Ethan Slater, look at him. His eyes have light behind it. This is before he joined the cast of Wicked. And him now, he looks like he has no light in his eyes. Like he looks like a totally different person. He literally looks like he’s dead inside. Also, Cynthia Rivio, we all know that her and Ariana do not look the same way they did before the movie. This is Cynthia before and this is her as of now with the Wicked premiere, Wicked for Good. And this was Ariana right when she was doing all of the press and the premiere for the first Wicked and this is her now. Like, there is something literally going on. No spoilers. I won’t spoil nothing. Yeah. I mean, and I’m sure that y’all have seen a lot of the on TikTok and people just saying about how skinny they are. I will say in a lot of the outfits that she was wearing, I was like h it’s just you’re very focused on this area of like the the the it’s it’s a little you know I was like oh crap. It’s really it is a little jarring. I will say it is a little jarring. It’s unhealthy. Let’s be real. It’s unhealthy. And it’s not a body shaming thing if it’s, you know, someone’s very clearly not well and if a lot of women and little girls are watching this from a PG movie. So I’m like, so as you can see, this conversation has just absolutely blown up. And that is when Ariana stepped in again and she posted this on her Instagram story. It is a resurface clip from a 2024 interview from the last Wicked Press tour of her and Cynthia sitting down and she said, “Resharing this from last year as a loving reminder to all. I always love and appreciate our talk so much at Sally.” And in this interview, she was talking about how she’s been treated like a specimen in a petri dish since she was a teenager and talked about how uncomfortable it’s been to be dissected online since she was 16 or 17 and how she’s heard it all. You know, I’ve been kind of doing this um in front of the public and kind of been, you know, a specimen in a petri dish really since I was 16 or 17, you know. So, I have heard it all. I’ve heard every version of it of what’s wrong with me and then you fix it and then it’s wrong for different reasons and then but that’s everything from you know even just the simplest thing your your appearance you know you’re young and you’re hearing all kinds of things um it’s hard to protect yourself from that noise and I think um it’s something that is uncomfortable no matter what scale you’re experiencing it on even if you go to Thanksgiving dinner and someone’s granny says oh my god you look skinnier what happened or you look heavier what happened it’s like that is something that is uncomfortable and horrible no matter where it’s happening. She pointed out that people feel way too comfortable commenting on other people’s bodies when they have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes. And she also just mentioned how dangerous it is to assume anything about somebody else and what’s going on with them. Society, there’s a comfortability uh that we shouldn’t have at all. commenting on others looks, appearance, what they think is going on behind the scenes or health or how they present themselves, you know, from what you’re wearing to your body to your face to your everything. There’s a comfortability that people have um commenting on that that I think is really dangerous and I think it’s dangerous for all parties involved. And I think um that I’m really lucky to have the support system that I have and um to just know and trust that I’m beautiful, you know, thank you and so are you. So are you. But I do know what the pressure of that noise feels like. It’s been um a resident in my life since I was 17. And that was last year that she said this. And this year, I feel like the conversation surrounding how everybody in the Wicked cast looks has just gotten so big that it’s like every video, everyone is putting these compilations together, comparing how all of these women look, but I’ve also seen people throw Jeff Goldblum into the mix there. They’ve also been talking about him as well. It’s not just the women. It really is like the whole wicked cast. Everyone is talking about how everybody looks. They’re like, “What happened on set?” And clearly Ariana wants this conversation to be shut down. She is tired. And I can see why. I mean, like I said, this is not the first time that she’s ever had to come out and tell people to not talk about her in this way, but that is what has been going on. That’s what’s been said about the wicked cast, how Ariana Grande had to respond to the whole thing. I want to know what you guys think about the fact that people have kept this conversation going despite Ariana clearly feeling like it’s inappropriate. Let me know your thoughts. I love you guys so much and I will talk to you in the next video. Bye, guys. [Music]

  1. When said body is used to sell products and promote billions dollar businesses while directly impacting the relationship children growing up have with their own bodies- it absolutely will become a matter of public discourse. It’s unreasonable, illogical, and ridiculous to demand otherwise.

I don’t bow to gaslighting. We can see when someone is emaciated. Anyone with an ounce of common sense can see the difference between the cast before this stupid project and now.

  2. Remember, anorexics will do and say anything to pursue and maintain their emaciated frames.

That includes gaslighting and shaming any reasonably concerned party.
She isn’t trying to fight back against body shaming. She’s protecting her disorder and the illusion of control said disorder affords her.

The fact her little kids look up to and emulate her makes it extra insidious.

  3. I’ll never understand why they think we can’t see…or we’ll just…magically see something completely different if they give some weak rhetoric that fits whatever narrative they want to ride out at the moment. She even talks completely different. No true sense of self. We see it all, girl. Try again 🄓

& the condescending ā€œwe all need to be gentle with each otherā€ is getting ridiculous. Just be real. No one’s bullying her, they’re pointing out a CLINICALLY CONCERNING observation that you can’t talk your way out of. Lawd!

  4. You need to talk about how Cynthia Erivo straight up plagiarized that exact interview with Ariana, and used Ariana’s words in her book. Even mentioning Thanksgiving, despite not being American. It’s SO WEIRD.

  5. I've watched a few different discussions on wicked. And something happened on that set. They're all acting like they just came from war, that they experienced something traumatic. Jonathan Bailey apparently said he had to take a break from acting, gold Bloom said he has officially become a vegetarian, the girls all look like they haven't eaten in months. Something strange happened on that set. I don't know what. It's not like the songs and the story hasn't been told for the first time. This movie was based off of a broadway, which was based off of a book. So it's nothing new.

  6. She should feel ashamed. Ashamed that she’s abusing her body, and her mind by lying to herself about it. She the one crying 24/7. CRYING in professional settings! Imagine going into a job interview and bawling because the interviewer asked you a general question?? Yet, she’s lecturing the audience on what IS and ISNT appropriate?

She needs to take a break and regroup. Away from the cameras.

  7. A lot of the comments here are trying to justify 'shaming', under the guise of 'concern'…

If your concern is on social media tagging and hashtagging folks, what makes you think A) your opinion is going to be taken? šŸ˜‚ or B) that you have a right to give it?

  8. My whole family just watched wicked 2 and we all said the same thing, all we could look at was her sternum the whole movie. Not a good or bad statement just a fact. They even drew your eyes to her sternum / collar bones with the design of the outfits and the glitter on her shoulders which i thought was interesting. Not sure what’s going on, but i do feel a societal shift back to ED culture, especially with the rise of ozempic, i think were going back to heroin chic as the new beauty standard.

  9. Commenting on how Ariana and Cynthia and how the whole cast looks like is not ā€œBody Shamingā€ and no offense I feel like they’re using what happened to Chadwick Boseman to excuse themselves and their unhealthy appearance. Chadwick Boseman had CANCER, and these women look terribly unhealthy. Heroine chic is not going to make a comeback and we need to combat this now & let them stop hiding behind the ā€œbody shamingā€ narrative to avoid accountability.

  10. ā€œIt’s not a body shaming thing if people are clearly not well.ā€ Is she their doctor?? Like how are they clearly not well. People are so bored with their own lives. Imagine if people scrutinized their appearance and drew these crazy ass conclusions. Its time to log out LOL

  11. I just finished the Aretha series that Cynthia did..she looks way different. Also this aloof childish persona Ariana is doing is very odd. Like let's call a thing a thing.

  12. I understand that from their position it would be very traumatic. I also understand why people are so worried. Their appearance brings praise & big money but once we look at them on tour, we no longer have a right to an opinion?

  13. Shes negating the issue as someone would with an ED. People who say it's body shaming are blinded, it's called accountability, at her big age she should be able to be held accountable, she's got full blown anorexia.

  14. The issue is that every single person is de-aging in Hollywood at a rapid pace but this isn't happening in regular people's lives while every single person is the thinnest they've ever been while preaching "body positivity"… I mean whatever but us normies should just keep eating so we have the strength to earn an income and vote fascists out of office.

  15. Ok, Ariana, you can keep telling you are fine. But don't expect the public to be deceived. I have a real doubt about her upcoming tour next year. Being so fragile as she is now, I don't believe she would be able to perform at her level (the way she used to did, while being the most "unhealthy") or to keep up with the schedule of announced dates.

  16. Ariana's body is signaling to the world that it is being harmed by whatever Ariana is doing, this is a fact. Love is telling the person the truth so they can do what is good for their body so they can look and be healthy. Ariana does not look healthy at the moment. Sending loving vibes

  17. All I know is that I've heard that the camera adds 10 pounds, and if I saw someone look like this in person I'd be deeply concerned about their well-being! If it's true about the camera, then this is even more concerning!

Acting like those of us who say this are judging someone is not only toxic, but gaslighting! Teating us like we're being cruel for saying that were concerned will end up getting people killed, because instead of reaching out and trying to help those who need it, we'll ignore the signs so that we don't get condemned for being "judgemental"!

Who knows how many people could/will end up dead because of this gaslighting?! This is really dangerous, and we all need to speak up and fight against this kind of behaviour! Lives literally depends on it!

  18. Honestly i cant believe that we live in a world where people are so offended by someone’s looks and feel so passionate to comment on it when truly there’s bigger issues happening in our world! This feels like a black mirror episode.

  19. i get that she might actually be sick and that y’all are just worried about her (i am too) but i don’t see how commenting on it on social media will do any good for her. also, i’m sure that her family and friends have her best interests at heart and that if she truly has an ED, they’ll do everything they can to help her.

  20. I wish the best for Ariana and for the rest of the cast that has either been affected by stress or the general pressures of Hollywood to be skeletal thin.

That said, their appearance during filming was immortalized in a block buster film & they have been doing promotional interviews all over the world. She can’t be surprised that people are concerned about both the actors themselves and how it may affect the many impressionable people (of any gender or age, but especially young girls) who will be watching these films / interviews.

I think both Cynthia and Ariana gave incredible performances in both films and any time I’ve seen them perform it live. But I can’t ignore how scarily thin they have gotten from their initial films and throughout their recent press runs.

  21. I do have to say it seems like everyone is taking pictures of Ari from like 2016-17 and labeling them as before pictures but those are almost a decade old now

  22. Ok so I can't say for certain but I think it's a combo of ED and drugs.
What I can say for certain is that the director for Wicked Jon M. Chu is insane. He had them filming both movies simultaneously and sure on paper that sounds nice. But these girls were 100% overworked. Cynthia stated during filming when the strike happened that it was a relief to get a break because they were "working themselves to the bone" (ironic yes?)
Who knows what's actually happened if it is ED, drugs but it's most definitely the aftermath of an abusive director.
If he really cared for his actors and actresses wellbeing he wouldn't have made them work so hard for two separate movies that could have been filmed at two sperate times.
We're definitely gonna be getting a behind the scenes of these movies some years from now and how Jon never let them rest and they relied on amphetamines, cigarettes and chicken broth to survive.
