Famously odd actor/director Crispin Hellion Glover is making another appearance at Fort Myers’ Florida SouthWestern State College.
Glover — best known for portraying George McFly in the movie “Back to the Future” — will screen one of his films, perform a one-hour book reading and take part in a Q&A and book signing.
Glover previously appeared at FSW in 2015.
FSW’s Rauschenberg Gallery announced the event late Monday night, Dec. 1, just two days’ before Glover’s appearance.
Doors open at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, for the event at FSW’s Rush Library Auditorium (Building J, Room 103). The announcement doesn’t include a performance time.
Crispin Glover’s reputation for weirdness
In a 2015 interview with The News-Press, Glover discussed his films, acting and his reputation for weirdness.
“People usually think of me as an eccentric — which is fine,” he said. “Artistically, I find unusual things generally more interesting. My interest is being involved in film/art — whatever you want to call it — that brings up questions and thoughts.”
Even so, he said, there’s a difference between his Hollywood image and the real Crispin Glover, who continues to act in movies, make art and direct films.
“My day-to-day life as a person, as a filmmaker — that part of my life is very centric,” he said. “It is not eccentric.
“It’s mechanical. It’s dealing with organization. I produce and fund the films myself. So this is not eccentric at all. It’s the opposite of that.”
More about Crispin Glover’s FSW event
At Wednesday’s event, Glover will screen his new film “NO! You’re WRONG or: Spooky Action at a Distance” for the first time in Florida, according to the announcement. The film world-premiered in October at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art.
In addition, he’ll perform a reading of his illustrated books called “Crispin Hellion Glover’s Big Slide Show, Version 3.” He’ll also take part in a Q&A and end the evening with a book signing and meet-and-greet. Books and posters will be available for sale (cash, Venmo and Zelle accepted).
Admission is free. Seating is first-come, first-served.
Glover has been acting since age 13. His acting credits include the movies “Back to the Future,” “River’s Edge,” “The Doors,” “Dead Man,” “Alice in Wonderland” and “Even Cowgirls Get the Blues.”
