Stuck on gift ideas for friends and family? Need a reason to get out of the house on those chilly, dark evenings? The makerspaces at Bull Run and Central Libraries are the perfect place to get creative this December. Whether you’re a total beginner or a seasoned maker, makerspace programs for teens and adults will help you craft something special.

A makerspace is an independent workspace inside the library that provides you with various machines, tools, and technology to explore, build, collaborate, and create. PWPL librarians also design hands-on programs to introduce you to a variety of materials, including wood, glass, and recycled items like old book pages, with friendly guidance and support.

Here’s what’s happening this December:

Bull Run Library Hive 8051:
Sunday Afternoon: Santa Hat

Adults | Sunday, Dec. 7, 1 p.m.

Make a festive Santa hat out of wine corks. All materials provided. Registration required.

Holiday Pet Bandanas

Adults | Saturday, Dec. 13, 1 p.m.

Sew holiday bandanas for your pet. No experience necessary. All materials provided. Registration required. Wait list available.

Yarn On: Fiber Fun

Adults | Tuesday, Dec. 16, 6 p.m.

Join other fiber enthusiasts and unravel a few balls of fiber and start a new project. Registration required.

Central Library Studio 8601:
Paper Pinecone Ornaments

Teens/Adults | Saturday, Dec. 6, 1 to 3:30 p.m.

Upcycle old book pages and create a pinecone perfect for gifting or hanging on a tree. First come, first served while supplies last.

Junk Journaling Club

Teens/Adults | Wednesday, Dec. 17, 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Turn your trash (think receipts, ticket stubs, tags, and more) into treasure and craft a fun way to look back on memories. Journals are provided for first-time visitors while supplies last.
