Prince Harry shocked fans when he unexpectedly walked onstage at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday, December 3, earning a standing ovation and roars from the crowd that quickly turned to boos seconds later.
Colbert was delivering a bit about cheesy holiday movies where an American falls in love with a British royal family member when Harry casually walked onstage, opening with jokes about Americans’ fascination with the crown.
“I wouldn’t say we’re obsessed with royalty,” Colbert said, to which the Duke of Sussex, 41, shot back, “Really? I heard you ‘elected’ a King?”
The Trump jab prompted boos from the crowd.

“No, he’s got a point,” Colbert admitted, as Harry doubled down with a swipe about King George III — his sixth great-grandfather — saying America “making such a big deal” over the monarch whose rule saw the loss of the colonies in 1783.
When Colbert fired back by calling the king a “jerk,” Harry told him to “let it go.”
The royal kept the bit going, even poking fun at CBS for settling a “baseless lawsuit” with the president. The network reportedly paid $16 million to resolve the dispute.
Harry went on to say he’d “do anything” to be cast in a Hallmark-style holiday movie about a royal romance, confirming to Colbert he “might know” a famous American actress.

As fake snow fell and sleigh bells chimed, Colbert crowned him the show’s “official Late Show prince of Christmas,” while Harry declared a “handsome prince” was standing beside the host after all.
Meghan Markle didn’t appear alongside her husband for the appearance, but she did cheer him on online by posting an Instagram Story of Harry lip-syning with Colbert as the two recreated a meme from The Great British Bake Off.
