Meghan Markle’s father is reportedly recovering from major surgery after an urgent health scare. Thomas Markle suffered a blood clot that left doctors quote no option but to amputate his left leg below the knee. His son Tom Markle Jr. tells the Daily Mail. Tom spoke to the British outlet on December 4th and noted that Thomas has been quote very brave throughout the ordeal. And he explained how the situation turned serious quite suddenly. His foot turned blue and then black. It happened very quickly. I took him to a local hospital and they did some scans and an ultrasound and said the leg had to be amputated, he said, adding there was no option. I was told the leg had to be removed and it was a case of life or death. Thomas, a former Hollywood lighting director, is said to have relocated to the Philippines with Tom in recent months and was cared for at a medical facility in Cebu. The Daily Mail reports he and Megan have been estranged for years following her 2018 wedding to Prince Harry and reps for the Duchess of Sussex reportedly have no comment on her father’s current condition. 81-year-old Thomas did not attend Megan and Harry’s nuptils in England after he confirmed that he’d staged paparazzi photos with a British tabloid ahead of the event, a move he later said he regretted. I mean, I I’ve uh I’ve apologized about this thing uh what happened uh at at least a hundred times or so. Megan has claimed that her father wasn’t truthful with her when confronted about the situation, telling Oprah Winfrey in a bombshell 2021 interview that his alleged dishonesty is what led to their falling out. And I said, “We won’t be able to protect our own kids one day.” And and I said, “So, I just need you to tell me. and if you tell me the truth, we can help. And he wasn’t able to do that. And that for me has has really resonated, especially now as a mother. Mhm. As for Thomas’s current prognosis, Tom Jr. shared that hospital staff are keeping a close eye on him, saying one of his doctors said the next two or three days are critical.
