Tributes are being paid to Hollywood actor and director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, after the couple were found dead at their Los Angeles home.

Police are treating the case as an “apparent homicide” and have launched an investigation after two bodies were found at the couple’s residence in Brentwood, an affluent neighborhood home to many celebrities. The family confirmed the deaths through a spokesperson.

Reiner was best known for directing a string of films, including The Princess Bride, This Is Spinal Tap, When Harry Met Sally, Misery, and A Few Good Men. He later became a prominent figure in local and national Democratic politics.

Actor Ben Stiller wrote on X that Reiner was “one of my favorite directors” and “made some of the most formative movies for my generation.”

“He was a kind caring person who was really really funny. I didn’t know him well but was always a fan and I feel a real sadness for those who did, and his family,” Stiller wrote.

Actor John Cusack said: “Shocked by the death of Rob Reiner – a great man.”

Former Vice President Kamala Harris described the Reiner’s as “dear friends” of her and her husband Doug Emhoff, and that “Rob loved our country, cared deeply about the future of our nation, and fought for America’s democracy.”

“Our thoughts are with their loved ones during this tragic time,” Harris said.
