Actress Mariette Hartley, 85, is opening up about filming an episode of Star Trek: The Original Series.

During a December 2025 interview with That’s Classic, Hartley noted that she starred as Zarabeth, a prisoner sent to her planet’s Ice Age, in Season 3, Episode 23 (“All Our Yesterdays”). During the 1969 episode, Mr. Spock, played by Leonard Nimoy, accidentally gets stuck near her cave. The pair takes a romantic interest in each other and eventually shares a passionate kiss.

While speaking to That’s Classic, Hartley noted that her character also got Spock, who is famously a vegetarian, to eat meat. In addition, she said she didn’t like her costume for the episode, which included a cut-out leather mini dress and fur boots.

“I had to wear that stupid bathing suit made of leather. That was designed by this very strange designer who just thought I looked fabulous,” said Hartley in the December 2025 interview.

Hartley also shared her thoughts about Nimoy and William Shatner, who played Captain James T. Kirk. According to Hartley, Shatner wore “big lifts” in his shoes, causing him to look taller.

“Most people don’t know how short he is,” said the actress.

She also suggested that Shatner prided himself on his good looks.

In addition, Hartley said that Nimoy, who died in 2015 at the age of 83, “was a good actor” while on set for the Star Trek: TOS season 3 episode.

“He was a serious actor. I thought he looked kind of funny. But he was pleasant, especially when he showed me how to do it,” said Hartley during the December 2025 interview.

Star Trek: TOS had a three-season run until 1969.

Besides her stint on Star Trek: TOS, Hartley has been featured in several other popular projects. For instance, she appeared in the series My Three Sons, Bonanza, Little House on the Prairie, Columbo, One Life to Live, Grey’s Anatomy, and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, per IMDb.
