The Princess of Wales donned a new pair of earrings as she stepped out in support of the Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea

The Princess of Wales is known to take her choice of earrings very seriously. Whether it’s a sweet nod to the birthstones of her beloved children, a poignant symbolic meaning at one of her more sombre engagements, or a dazzling piece of heirloom jewellery, Catherine can always be trusted to pick just the thing for every occasion. The Princess’s trusted jewellery designers, Catherine Zoraida, once told PEOPLE magazine that the future queen is ‘so good at sending those thoughtful messages … she’s so thoughtful and caring in every way.’
It is no surprise, then, that the mother-of-three caught the eye of royal watchers everywhere when she donned a new pair of earrings for a moving visit to the Ever After garden at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea on Saturday. The installation, which lights up Duke of York Square with over 30,000 illuminated white roses in support of The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, was created in 2019 by designer Dame Anya Hindmarch and the fashion writer Camilla Morton. The pair were inspired following the loss of their friend, the late production designer Michael Howells, who was a trustee of the Royal Marsden, with donations to the garden going to support the hospital.
The Royal Marsden no doubt holds a special place in Catherine’s heart. The Princess of Wales revealed in January that she had been undergoing her chemotherapy treatment at the London hospital, and has been the joint patron of the Royal Marsden with Prince William ever since. It will have been an emotional evening, then, for the royal, who met with the volunteers and staff who work to make the garden happen, before planting a dedication, which read: ‘In loving memory of all those who have lost their lives to cancer.’
