Andrew did not attend the King’s lunch at Buckingham Palace for the wider royal family last week, as part of what the insider calls “the scorched earth policy”. I doubt he ever will again. Rather, he was photographed looking damp on a horse, possibly with Palace collusion. His daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, are invited to Sandringham – in medieval times the whole branch would have been lopped off, because this is hereditary monarchy, and you can’t inherit a title from a title-less man, but since Princess Diana’s death the family is more conscious of mental health concerns. Even so, the insider continues, “We don’t yet know if they will go. They might, considering what their parents have done, feel entitled to stand with the wider family rather than their disgraced parents; and the King will be pleased to show kindness to his nieces”.
