Actor Burt Ward, 80, opened up about his time playing Batman’s (Adam West) trusty sidekick, Dick Grayson, AKA Robin, in the hit ’60s series, Batman.

During a February 2025 interview on Celebrity Drop, Ward revealed he wasn’t too happy about an on-set prank pulled by West and guest star Vincent Price. He noted that Price played the villain Egghead in three episodes during the show’s second and third seasons. Ward explained that Price and West “played a trick on” him, while filming a “final fight scene” with Batman and Robin facing off Egghead, who often has eggs on hand.

“The scene is that I’ve been captured. Vincent Price has got me around the neck in a neck hole and he’s got eggs right there. And Batman breaks in and they have this dialogue back and forth. And between each statement [Eggman] cracks an egg on my head. I mean a real egg,” said Ward during the February 2025 interview. “They decided to have some fun and their idea of fun was each one of them would make a mistake intentionally, where they have to shoot it again.”

According to Ward, they ended up doing “11 takes” for the scene.

“Every one of those takes there were three eggs broken on my head. There were 33 eggs broken on my head and I got to tell you something one or two or three or four or five eggs doesn’t bother you. But 33 eggs, it was hurting,” said Ward.

Ward also said that West and Price denied that they were purposefully messing up the takes. He also said that he decided to get back at Price for the situation.

“When they finally got it right, I’m supposed to pick up a half a dozen eggs and take the half a dozen eggs and throw it at him right,” recalled Ward during the interview. “Well, I was furious okay and I don’t get mad easily but I got really mad because I had all these eggs cracked on my head and it hurt. I picked up a dozen eggs and I went over to him. I didn’t throw them at him. I went over and I smashed him so hard on his egghead.”

Ward starred as Robin throughout the 120-episode run of Batman from 1966 to 1968, per IMDb. He also played the character in the 1966 film, Batman, and provided the voice for Robin in the 1970s animated series, The New Adventures of Batman, as reported by IMDb.
