In the morning, Mercury — spending its final few hours in Sagittarius for the year — squares off with Neptune, muddling your thoughts a bit. It’ll be challenging to evaluate new opportunities, or assess new people, with any degree of accuracy, so try to withhold judgment for the time being. Then in the afternoon, Mercury moves into Capricorn, where it’ll stay for about three weeks. Now, you’re less likely to be dazzled by charm or flattery: You’re interested in people of substance, and you can see through anyone who’s all talk and no action.

Most of the time, you’re incredibly direct about your feelings and opinions, even the ones you suspect won’t make you popular. In your experience, the truth tends to come out anyway, and being withholding creates too much unnecessary stress. But today, remember that there’s a difference between secrecy and privacy; you don’t owe it to others to share every passing thought. Keeping your opinions to yourself, at least for now, might not feel entirely natural, but it could be the best move at the moment.

You prize loyalty, both in yourself and in others. You’d rather stay true to people, even if it might be more beneficial to you to leave them behind — you know that in some deep, ineffable way, being trustworthy will always be worth it. Today, though, just remember that sometimes it’s possible to give your loyalty to the wrong people. It needs to be a two-way street; if people consistently take your devotion for granted, if they never give anything back, you’d be more than justified in pulling back.

Sometimes, being generous and good natured means that others think they can take advantage of you. At the very least, it means that they underestimate you. When necessary, you know how to prove them all wrong, to demonstrate that you’re smarter than anyone’s given you credit for. But today, going out of your way to prove yourself probably isn’t the best use of your energy. Others are unlikely to change their minds right now, and even if that weren’t true, it still wouldn’t be worth it for you. Their opinions can’t stop you from living your life, so don’t let them take up any more room in your head.

Today, you might start to worry that your life is too small. You want to make the kinds of wild, unconventional choices that impress people and make them sit up and take notice; you don’t want to be just another regular person. But now isn’t the time to set any grand, new plans in motion: You aren’t yet sure of what you want, and you risk committing to a course of action that isn’t actually right for you. There’s nothing wrong with living an ordinary life, but if you want more than that, take your time to come up with a plan.

You do your best to act with only good intentions; you’ve learned from experience that letting selfishness or pettiness take the lead might feel gratifying in the moment but ultimately makes you ashamed. Today, though, your own motivations might be a bit unclear to you. It’s hard to tell if you’re doing something because you genuinely believe it’s right or because of some self-serving, less noble reasons. So if you’re not sure why you’re acting in a certain way, try to hit pause. There’s no rush, and slowing down a bit might bring more clarity.

Although you sometimes start to doubt yourself, today you’ll be reminded that you’re the person who knows your life best. Others might have helpful insights to share, or they might have specific expertise that you can benefit from, but when it comes to your own life, you’re the expert. Just remember that this also means that others know their own lives best, too. If you catch yourself acting like you know your friends’ situations better than they do, take a step back and try to have a bit more faith in them.

Every day you’re bombarded with so much information, and most of the time, you’re good at determining what’s actually important, and what you can safely disregard. Today, though, you might struggle to prioritize, because everything seems critical, in need of your urgent attention. It’s stressful to feel like you need to tend to a dozen matters at once — but in all likelihood, many of them aren’t really as important as they appear to be. Try not to stress yourself out — it’ll only make it harder to assess the situation accurately.

In general, you try not to be gullible; if something seems too good to be true, you assume that it is. Today, though, your optimistic streak might come out. It’s so easy right now to see only what you want to see, to hope for the best and ignore all evidence to the contrary. But do your best to be cognizant of reality. Instead of trying to read between the lines, or creating grand narratives in your own head, the best thing you can do is pay attention to the facts.

Normally, you have a strong sense of self, but today you might start to doubt that you really know who you are. You might have strong reactions that catch you off guard, or you could struggle with tasks that you imagine “should” play to your strengths. Don’t panic or start to imagine that you’ve been wrong about yourself all along. You’re allowed to change — both gradually over time and from one day to the next — and it doesn’t mean that you don’t know yourself or that you’re not as strong and capable as you’ve ever been.

You might think you’re being perfectly logical, today — but there’s a strong likelihood that some irrationality is creeping into your thinking anyway. Without realizing it, your imagination starts spinning stories, or your superstitious side — usually kept under wraps — makes itself felt. Instead of trying to fight yourself, the best thing you can do is accept it. You’re allowed to dream and fantasize; nobody’s completely rational 100 percent of the time. And ultimately, recognizing and accepting this part of yourself is the best way to ensure it doesn’t go too far.

You try not to be thrown by other people’s reactions and judgments — ideally, you try not to notice them at all. But today, you might be more tuned in to others’ actions than usual, reading into their tiniest facial expressions and picking up on general vibes. Just try not to read into them too deeply. While you might glean some valuable information, you’re more likely to stress yourself out over things that turn out not to be problems at all. If someone has an issue with you, it’s their job to say something, not yours to decipher the unspoken clues.

Sometimes, it feels like you’re just not cut out for dealing with life’s practical problems. You have plenty of friends who seem naturally talented at making smart and sensible plans, at tending to the unglamorous work that keeps the world moving, but your gifts lie in other areas. Today, though, don’t leave all the boring work to others, just because they’re “better” at it. Ultimately, the person responsible for your life is you and that means sometimes doing the grunt work.
