Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made a rare comment about Archie and Lilibet – and their young children’s potential career prospects.

In the days before Christmas, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a major announcement about changes to their charitable organisation. The royal couple revealed that after five years, the Archewell Foundation would be renamed to Archewell Philanthropies, sharing the news in an official statement. The company said: “This charitable entity allows the couple and their children to expand upon their global philanthropic endeavours as a family.”

While many were preoccupied with the nature of the name change, many overlooked the rare comment about Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4. The mention of their children is the first time Harry and Meghan have named their youngsters in such an official capacity.

Royal expert Richard Eden has suggested that the inclusion of their kids in the statement is a sign that the Sussexes plan to involve their children in future philanthropic endeavours. While the message about their children remains cryptic and unconfirmed, Mr Eden reportedly spoke to an old friend of Prince Harry ’s, who was allegedly bemused by the statement, given Harry and Meghan’s insistence to keep their children shielded from the limelight.

According to the Daily Mail, Harry’s friend told the royal expert: “I am genuinely confused. Harry and Meghan were always so insistent that their children would be able to make their own way in life without the pressure of expectations or titles. I can’t believe Harry is behind this. It must be Meghan’s influence.”

It’s not just the statement leading many to believe that Archie and Lilibet will one day be given a public platform by their parents, as the Archewell statement came just days after the children featured in Harry and Meghan’s annual Christmas card photo. The family photo featured the clearest image yet of their children, with Archie being seen hugging his father while Meghan was bending down and holding hands with Lilibet as they stood in a forest on a bridge.

Separately, they also released a Christmas card and end-of-year video highlighting their charitable endeavours. The video featured the children helping their parents bake cookies ahead of Thanksgiving with a local charity.

Since making her return to Instagram in 2025, Meghan has frequently shared images of her children, but always obstructing their faces using different angles, or covering their faces with emojis to protect their privacy.

Harry and Meghan have opened up about their children’s future more in the past year, as they launched their project to help combat cyberbullying and educate both parents and children about the importance of online safety.

During a panel discussion for World Mental Health Day in New York City in October, Meghan spoke candidly about the fears she has for her children as they grow up in the digital age.

She said: “Our children, Archie and Lili, are just six and four years old. Luckily still too young for social media, but we know that day is coming. Like so many parents, we think constantly about how to embrace technology’s benefits, while safeguarding against its dangers. That hopeful intention of separation is rapidly becoming impossible.”
