“The intention has always been to build a much more suitable spine road through the development, that would mean through traffic could use that much more safely,” he said.
“We are aware there will be some negative feeling about the proposals,” he said.
It would increase journey times for some, he explained, “but then there are lots of benefits”.
“There’s been a lot of feeling that Crewe Lane has got too much traffic on it already,” he added.
The spine road is expected to be completed in 2026 with changes to Crewe Lane’s layout coming in after that, according to the proposals.
