When one thinks about the British royal family and royalty in general, there’s this sense of wealth. But it’s always a bit nebulous. How much do royals make, exactly? How much are they worth? And where does that money even come from?

Now, we have an answer. According to the Duchy of Cornwall estate’s Integrated Annual Report, the Prince and Princess of Wales made $30.9 million (or £22.9 million) for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. This income covers the public, private, and charitable expenses for William, Kate, and their three children, George, Charlotte, and Louis. A bigger number than perhaps a lot of people imagined. But this is royalty we are talking about.

William inherited the Duchy of Cornwall title and estate in 2022 when his father became King. The estate, which is worth more than $1 billion, was founded in 1337 by King Edward III to cover the expenses of the oldest son of the British monarch.

This comes after recent reports that money is the actual reason William and Harry do not get along. Or, at least, William’s perception that Harry made public comments about William’s wife, Kate Middleton, in his memoir, Spare, and gave his 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey purely for financial gain.

“For William, Harry crossed a line that can’t be undone – he tore down Catherine for financial gain he wasn’t desperate for. That sort of betrayal leaves a lasting wound,” a source told Radar Online.

Royal biographer Ingrid Seward said, “He rubbished Kate for money he didn’t even need – that will not be easily forgiven.”

According to the outlet, even if it seems Kate has forgiven Harry for his public comments about her and has even been encouraging her husband to reconcile with Harry, William will never forgive his brother. “Each time Harry has gone public, particularly when Catherine was drawn in, it’s pushed him further from William. For William, criticism of his wife crosses a line, which is why forgiving him seems out of reach,” an insider said.

These reports have continued even after Harry and his father, King Charles, met for the first time in over a year, changing the narrative that it was possible for the royal family to fully reconcile. According to RadarOnline.com, William remains upset that, despite Harry not being a working royal, he’s still benefiting from being part of the royal family.

“William is livid that Harry continues to profit from the royal family, both now and in the future, despite having walked away and publicly criticized them,” the insider said. “He believes that loyalty and duty must carry weight, otherwise the entire system begins to crumble.”

The source also said, “This has become a definitive boundary for William. He has told those close to him that if limits aren’t set now, they never will be, and he intends to enact some heavy ones when he takes the throne. From William’s perspective, Harry needs to face the financial repercussions of leaving royal duties behind.”

Whatever that is, financially, Harry is doing fine, but so are William and Kate Middleton.
