Frida Gustavsson, the Swedish model turned actor who currently stars as Freydís Eiríksdóttir on Netflix’s Vikings: Valhalla, may want to trade her sword for a lasso to play one of DC’s most famous heroes.

The X fan account @Diana_Prince41 shared a screenshot of Gustavsson liking an Instagram comment that said, “like this comment if you are interested in playing Wonder Woman.” Many of the commenters on the X post point out that Gustavsson liked many of the comments on the post in question, so it may not be particularly noteworthy that she did the same for the Wonder Woman comment. She also didn’t reply to the comment, so her specific feelings about playing Wonder Woman remain unclear; on the other hand, it isn’t out of the question that anyone in Gustavsson’s position would want a chance to play the character.

Stars mentioning, or even hinting at, being interested in superhero roles is nothing new. Riverdale star Madeliane Petsch has mentioned wanting to play Jean Grey in the MCU’s X-Men reboot. Heated Rivalry star Hudson Williams posted a photo of himself with a Nightwing comic with the caption “James Gunn let’s grab coffee.” The Housemaid’s Brandon Sklenar has openly campaigned to play the DCU Batman. Even though Gustavsson didn’t come out and say she wants to play Wonder Woman, the role’s there for the taking, as the future of Wonder Woman in the DCU is up in the air.

After Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3 starring Gal Gadot was canceled in December 2022, DC Universe co-chair James Gunn announced development on an HBO prequel series centered on the Amazons before Wonder Woman’s birth, to be titled Paradise Lost. Wonder Woman was also teased in Creature Commandos during a possible vision of the future; in addition, the show featured the sorceress Circe, who claims to be from the Amazon island of Themyscira. In 2025, it was reported that Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira had been hired to write a script for a DCU Wonder Woman film, although no release date or creative team has been announced.

Rumors have circulated that Wonder Woman will be featured in Man of Tomorrow, and while no confirmation has been given, a bevy of actors have tested for an unnamed female role in the film, which suggests at least the possibility that she could make an appearance. All of which is to say that many talented actors could make a great Wonder Woman — and if Gustavsson really does want the role, she’ll face some stiff competition.
