Marvel Studios is preserving a 12-year record that revolutionized the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the return of Steve Rogers in Avengers: Doomsday. To say that the last few years since the end of the Infinity Saga have been a struggle for the MCU.
There are so many factors that have contributed to these issues, but as the culmination of the Multiverse Saga nears, Marvel Studios is focused on making sure that this final stretch leading to Avengers: Doomsday runs as smoothly as possible.
Marketing for Avengers: Doomsday has already started a year ahead of its premiere — a different approach to the matter compared to previous culminating projects in the franchise. While the more complicated Multiverse Saga isn’t as properly laid out as the Infinity Saga, one thing from the first decade of the universe is coming back in the hopes that it will once again evolve the MCU.
The Russos Will Continue Developing Steve Rogers’ MCU Story In Avengers: Doomsday

12 years after Joe and Anthony Russo boarded the MCU via Captain America: The Winter Soldier, they are back at the helm, directing Avengers: Doomsday. The 2014 film, the second in the Captain America trilogy, is widely regarded as one of the best entries in the MCU, and aside from fully fleshing out Rogers’ character, it also led to the next three biggest films in the Infinity Saga — Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.
Beyond just returning to the MCU, the Russos directing Avengers: Doomsday coupled with Chris Evans’ confirmed return as Rogers, will continue the 12-year streak of collaboration. Since joining the franchise more than a decade ago, no other filmmaker has creatively directed the original Avenger’s story other than Joe and Anthony. So, while there are some concerns about undoing Steve’s poignant Avengers: Endgame, there’s a reprieve knowing that it will be the Russos behind it.
Why The Russos Handling Steve’s Avengers: Doomsday Story Is The Best-Case Scenario For Chris Evans’ MCU Comeback

Captain America: The First Avenger was a solid introduction to Evans’ Steve Rogers. Director Joe Johnston did a great job establishing his origins story that made his joining of Nick Fury’s Avengers Initiative seamless. That said, it was the Russos who elevated the character to become one of the more fully fleshed out players in the MCU, and they did this by challenging his morality and putting him in situations that reinforce his identity.

Disney’s Exciting Avengers Announcement Damages MCU’s Future
Long-time fans of the Avengers should be thrilled about Disney’s new Avengers announcement, but it has a bigger repurcussion to MCU’s future.
Admittedly, there are legitimate concerns about Steve’s return to the MCU after his ending in Avengers: Endgame. That said, if Marvel Studios was ever going to do it, having the Russos handle the next era for his personal arc is the best-case scenario. Joe and Anthony have proven time and again that they not only deeply care about the character, they also truly understand him. So, whatever happens to him in Avengers: Doomsday, there’s at least a guarantee that the filmmakers have a good reason for it.
