The Royal Family stood in a line on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
Being born into the royal family certainly comes with its perks – with the money, luxurious residences and glamorous lifestyle at the top of the list. But it’s also hard work, and many working royals spend the year attending hundreds of official engagements and events. But some partake in more events than others, and royal expert Patricia Treble has tallied up the total royal engagements in 2025 to find out who was officially the ‘hardest-working’ royal last year. Data from the Court Circular, the official record of engagements undertaken by all members of the Royal Family, revealed that all the royals worked harder in 2025 than 2024, with a grand total of 2,459 engagements between them. And the new list sees Princess Anne knocked off the top spot – so, who has replaced her? (Picture: Karwai Tang/WireImage)

10. Catherine, Princess of Wales – 68 engagements
The Princess of Wales spent 2025 in remission from cancer, following her diagnosis in 2024, but still managed 68 royal engagements. Talking about her recovery on a trip to Colchester hospital, she said: ‘You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment. Treatment’s done, then it’s like, “I can crack on, get back to normal”, but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult. You’re not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you’re not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to.’ (Picture: Aaron Chown/PA Wire)

9. Prince Edward, Duke of Kent – 77 engagements
The 90-year-old Duke of Kent attended 77 royal engagements in 2025, the same year in which his wife, the Duchess of Kent, died aged 92. He’s been a working member of the Royal Family since he retired from the British Army in 1976, and presented the winners’ trophies at Wimbledon for more than five decades. According to the official website of the Royal Family, he is involved with over 140 different charities, organisations and professional bodies. (Picture: Max Mumby/Indigo/Getty Images)

8. Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester – 113 engagements
The Duchess of Gloucester is the wife of the late Queen Elizabeth II’s cousin, The Duke of Gloucester. She’s connected to more than 60 organisations and, among her 113 royal engagements this year, visited Bermuda in October to kickstart a royal tour on behalf of King Charles and Queen Camilla. The Duchess of Gloucester mostly stays out of the spotlight and, as one of the royal family’s hardest-working members, is also considered one of the most unsung. 7. William, Prince of Wales – 202 engagements
Prince William may be heir to the throne, but he typically carries out fewer royal engagements than other members of the Royal Family. While this might cause some raised eyebrows, the Waleses have long insisted that they wish to carry out their public role differently from other family members, focusing on creating impact, rather than upping the volume of events. In fact, in November last year, the Daily Mail reported that Prince William had previously told the King that he wanted to cut his official royal engagements. 6. Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester – 212 engagements
At 81, the Duke of Gloucester is the second-oldest working member of the Royal Family, yet he outpaced the Prince of Wales with 212 royal engagements in 2025. Much like his wife, the duke conducted his duties without much public attention. This included a visit to the London Borough of Hounslow to mark 100 years of the Golden Mile, a stretch of the Great West Road that has become an important area for new jobs, businesses and investment. It was first opened by King George V in 1925. (Picture: Max Mumby/Indigo/Getty Images)

Queen Camilla Attends The Championships Wimbledon 2025

5. Queen Camilla – 228 engagements
Queen Camilla attended 228 royal engagements in 2025, placing her fifth on the list of the hardest-working royals. Since her marriage to the king in 2005, the queen has become patron or president of more than 100 charities. According to the official Royal Family website, the main themes across her work are health and well-being, promoting literacy, the arts, animal welfare and supporting survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence. 4. Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh – 235 engagements
As patron of over 70 charities and organisations, the Duchess of Edinburgh, wife to Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, attended 235 royal engagements in 2025. According to the official website of the Royal Family, her core interests include supporting women and gender equality, and she champions inclusion in the workplace through her involvement with 100 Women in Finance, the Women’s Network Forum and The Duke of Edinburgh Award’s Women in Business Committee. 3. Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh – 313 engagements
After the death of his father, Prince Philip, in 2021, Prince Edward inherited the title of Duke of Edinburgh. Prince Edward had 313 royal engagements in 2025 and, alongside his busy schedule of events, he supports the Duke of Edinburgh Award. The award was established by Prince Philip and sees young people aged 14-24 pick activities to participate in and a cause to volunteer for in order to achieve a bronze, silver or gold DofE award. 2. Princess Anne, Princess Royal – 478 engagements
Pipped to the post with 478 royal engagements is Princess Anne, who was crowned the hardest-working royal the year previously, with 433 official acts despite suffering a horse riding injury, and was also the hardest-working in 2023. But despite stepping up the number of engagements in 2025, the 75-year-old princess dropped down to second place. So, who took the crown? (Picture: Mark Cuthbert/UK Press via Getty Images)

1. King Charles – 532 engagements
At the top of the list and officially claiming the title of the hardest working member of the royal family in 2025 is, perhaps unsurprisingly, King Charles. Last year, the king conducted 533 engagements – the most since 2019, when he had 541. This increase is likely due to the king’s improved health. Despite still undergoing cancer treatment, King Charles said in an announcement last month: ‘Thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention, and adherence to doctors’ orders, my own schedule of cancer treatment can be reduced in the new year.’ He added: ‘This milestone is both a personal blessing and a testimony to the remarkable advances that have been made in cancer care in recent years.’ (Picture: Getty Images)
