It took some time, but it looks like Ghost Rider will finally be blazing a new trail in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel fans would be forgiven for forgetting that both the Johnny Blaze and Robbie Reyes versions of Ghost Rider have already appeared in the MCU, given that neither has been used in almost a decade. Gabriel Luna portrayed Robbie Reyes/Ghost Rider in multiple episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s fourth season, which aired on ABC in 2016-17.
Johnny Blaze also made a silent cameo in one of the Season 4 episodes, during a flashback explaining how Reyes became the new Ghost Rider of the MCU. While there were once plans for a Ghost Rider spin-off series on Hulu, with Luna set to return as the Skeleton Driver, the project ended up scrapped due to a creative impasse, and the character has yet to be seen again in the MCU.
When will Ghost Rider arrive in the MCU?
According to trusted scooper Daniel Richtman, Marvel Studios is finally ready to bring Ghost Rider back into the MCU’s storytelling plans. In a new post on the social media platform X, Richtman wrote that “Marvel is doing a Ghost Rider project in the next saga of the MCU.”
No other details were shared at this time, so it’s unclear whether the Ghost Rider project will feature Luna’s Robbie Reyes, hand the mantle back to Johnny Blaze, or feature one of the other many characters to have become the Spirit of Vengeance. As always with scoopers, fans should take what they say with a grain of salt, as they are never 100% accurate.
Richtman’s Ghost Rider scoop comes six months after his last one, which claimed that Marvel Studios has found the actor who will be playing Johnny Blaze in the MCU. If true, fans will likely be waiting a while for an official casting reveal, since Ghost Rider is not set to appear until after the conclusion of the Multiverse Saga. The saga is currently set to end in 2027 with the release of Avengers: Secret Wars in theaters on December 17.
Until then, fans can revisit Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4 on Disney+ to watch the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider.
