George Clooney shared his son’s reaction to watching him as the Dark Knight in 1997’s Batman & Robin. In a recent interview, the actor looked back on the widely ridiculed movie while gushing about his kids Halloween getups.
George Clooney details how his son reacted to watching Batman & Robin for first time
George Clooney’s portrayal of the DC superhero in the 1997 movie Batman & Robin remains a disappointing dent in his otherwise stellar filmography. The actor has often been candid about his regret over the role and had once said, “I think we might have killed the franchise” (via The Independent).
However, despite the film’s history of poor reviews, Batman & Robin appears to have gained a fan. In a recent interview with W Magazine, Clooney revealed that his 8-year-old son Alexander loved Batman & Robin.
“Halloween’s a big holiday. My son went as Batman. He hadn’t seen Batman yet,” Clooney began. “I always say to him, ‘You know I was Batman.’ He’s always like, ‘No.’ I don’t know that he knew how profound it was when he said I wasn’t Batman,” he added.
The Jay Kelly star then revealed, “A couple of weeks ago, I finally showed it to him. It wasn’t great for grown-ups, but it’s great for 8-year-olds, so he loved it.” Meanwhile, Alexander’s twin sister, Ella, had a different creative approach for the holiday.
“My daughter, meanwhile, went as a witch. She doesn’t like all the princess stuff. She likes to be the evil witch,” shared Clooney.
The Ocean’s Eleven star has often poked fun at Batman & Robin in the past. In a 2002 interview with The New York Times, the actor called the movie “a waste of money.” On The Graham Norton Show some years later, Clooney had joked, “I always apologize for Batman & Robin.”
Meanwhile, Clooney has recently returned to the big screen with Noah Baumbach’s latest offering, Jay Kelly. The comedy-drama received critical acclaim with special praise for Clooney and co-lead Adam Sandler’s performances. The movie also stars Laura Dern, Billy Crudup, Riley Keough, and more.
