On January 8, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their first joint appearance of 2026.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex joined a video call moderated by Gayle King to talk about the impact of phone-based childhoods.

At one point, the couple’s dog Pula made a sweet cameo appearance as Harry and Meghan participated in the call from their Montecito, California home.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their first joint appearance of 2026, joining a discussion for Oprah Winfrey’s Oprah Daily platform about the impact of phone-based childhoods—an issue they’ve long been outspoken about.

At one point in the January 8 call, Hello! reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were interrupted by one of their dogs, Pula, who seemed to want to join Harry and Meghan for the conversation moderated by Gayle King. The chat was about Jonathan Haidt and Catherine Price’s new book, An Amazing Generation, and Harry and Meghan called in from their Montecito, California home. When King pointed out Pula in the background, Harry laughed and said, “She’s been sitting next to us, chewing a stick.”

For the appearance, Meghan wore a pink top and an $18,700 Cartier Juste Un Clou necklace, which the Duchess of Sussex has worn numerous times in the past. She recently wore the yellow gold choker that is accentuated with 57 diamonds in October to promote an As Ever product launch, and also wore it while visiting Colombia with Harry in 2024 and at the Invictus Games in 2022.

Per The Daily Mail, on Thursday’s call, Meghan said that she and Harry were “proud to be a part of” the parent-led movement around reducing phone-based childhoods, to which Harry responded, “Yeah, hugely.”

“And the insights have been incredibly valuable over the years for our work with parents who have lost their children to online harms,” he continued. “And working towards solutions to keep all children safe.”

Last year, Harry appeared on the “Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know” podcast, where he shared that he and Meghan have had difficult conversations about their kids’ future on social media. “We talk about it a lot,” Harry said. “I think that because of what we know now, we will be way more cautious and hesitant of allowing our kids to have access to social media, but the problem is, so many parents don’t have that awareness.”

While this is Meghan’s first public appearance in 2026, she sent out a newsletter to her As Ever followers, writing, “With the rush of the holiday season behind us, we look ahead with an intention to begin the new year at a gentler pace.”

“Making space for moments that matter—shared over a cup of tea, by candlelight, or simply taking a pause when the day allows,” she continued. “A reminder that how you start matters, and that easing in can be its own kind of resolution.”
