What many believed would never happen following his UK departure may soon become a reality. A reconciliation between Prince Harry and the royal family is reportedly on the verge of happening. A fresh security assessment has reportedly concluded that the youngest son of King Charles meets the threshold for official protection in the UK.
Harry had lost automatic taxpayer-funded police protection when departing his home country. However, after demanding a reassessment, it sounds like his circumstances may be changing. Harry left the UK for California with his wife, Meghan Markle, and two children in 2020.

In a shocking turn of events, the door could soon be open for Harry to reunite with some in the royal family. That door appeared to be slammed shut when the Prince released his tell-all memoir about the royal family called Spare in 2023.
Now, though, it appears he will receive official protection in the UK very soon. “The discussion stage is essentially over,” an insider told RadarOnline regarding Harry’s case. They go on to say that the threats facing Harry and his family are genuine, and that he therefore deserves extra protection in the UK. Harry thus is reportedly “just one agreement away” from his security status changing.
Meanwhile, sources with Buckingham Palace say they are prepared to welcome Harry back on a limited basis. That would be on the condition, apparently, that Harry agrees not to go public again on private royal matters. His book and numerous interviews harshly criticized the royal family. He and his brother, and future King Prince William, have been estranged because of that for years. There was reportedly ongoing tensions between the brothers and William’s wife, Kate Middleton.
Harry’s automatic police protection was removed when he left for California. Under the current system, he must give 30 days’ notice before visiting the UK so that police can assess security needs. His team has said this offers him manifestly inferior protection than what is needed.
