The 2026 awards season is under way, with the 83rd Golden Globe Awards taking place on Sunday night. The ceremony is hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser for the second consecutive year and will honour achievements in film and television.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another enters the night as the most nominated film, with nine nods. It is widely expected to win best musical or comedy, while Anderson is tipped to take best director. In the same film category, Timothee Chalamet is seen as the frontrunner for best actor for his role in Marty Supreme, following his recent Critics Choice Award win, ahead of Leonardo DiCaprio, George Clooney, Ethan Hawke, Lee Byung-Hun and Jesse Plemons.
In the drama acting races, Wagner Moura is considered a slight favourite for best actor for The Secret Agent, competing against Michael B. Jordan, Joel Edgerton, Dwayne Johnson, Oscar Isaac and Jeremy Allen White. Jessie Buckley is also being closely watched in the best actress in a drama category for her performance in Hamnet, facing competition from Jennifer Lawrence, Renate Reinsve, Julia Roberts, Tessa Thompson and Eva Victor. For best actress in a musical or comedy, Rose Byrne is seen as the leading contender for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.
On the television side, HBO’s White Lotus leads with six nominations, including acting nods for Carrie Coon, Parker Posey, Aimee Lou Wood, Walton Goggins and Jason Isaacs. Netflix’s Adolescence follows with five nominations, earning attention for its single-shot storytelling approach centred on a murder investigation.
